Nature and Character of Cooperatives

Guided Question: 
1. Look for any types of cooperatives from the internet and highlight the mission,
vision and objectives 
2. Create a reflection based from the Mission, Vision and Objecives. Cite some
relevant examples based on your readings and actual experiences.
 1. Mission answers the question “Why do we exist?” Vision answers the question “What will
the future look like as we fulfill our mission? What will be different?” While mission is
about today, vision is about the future, what we will become.
This prompted the vendors in Susano Market to hold a meeting to address this concern.
NOVADECI was established in the 70’s their agenda was mainly to provide solution to the meat
vendor’s problem of lack of meat supply and the lack of capital to continue their businesses and
to address the sanitation and health that was ordered to close by the local government due to
this issue. In a subsequent meeting the idea of forming a cooperative was brought up.
 
Soon, more people were convinced to join as members, with the idea of pooling each other’s
resources to address each other’s needs. There were 70 original members when Novaliches
Vendors Credit Cooperative Incorporated was renamed Novaliches Development Cooperative
or NOVADECI. The newly formed cooperative underwent numerous trials and problems.
Initially, the group could not afford to lease a space to hold office for their business transactions
and for holding their meetings, because of this, the founders utilized their residences as the
venues of their assemblies.
NOVADECI adopted the VISION Statement “NOVADECI is the best financial institution
responsive to members’ need” and MISSION statement “ Novadeci is a community based
cooperative that improves the quality of life of its members through excellent financial and allied
services”
  It was geared towards providing diversified services to the members. To date, the co-op’s
products and services include health and medical services, mutual benefit services, savings
products, loan products, medical services pharmacy and educational services.

2. Reflection Paper Regarding NOVADECI Cooperative mission & Vision

Each of us has its own Mission. Each of us has its own Goals and Visions. Each of us has its
own. Relating to NOVADECI’s vision, I could see that this institution is really striving hard to be
a people centered cooperative enterprise for sustainable development and resilient life. This is
what cooperatives mainly do. As I have read their history and heard stories from my neighbours
who are members.When I was young one of my neighbor can’t provide for his family , but when
he joined the cooperative , he is now able to provide for his family and access markets at
reasonable prices because of his membership with the Cooperative .Novadeci do live up for
their mission and vision.

Choosing intentionally to help others flips life upside-down. In helping others rather then
seeking our own gain, we find great freedom. Service to others results in liberty. We are
able to say no to modern culture‘s games of promotion and authority. We live lives of less
stress, less anxiety, and less frustration. We begin to feel more fulfilled, more complete,
more alive. Living for others completely abolishes our need for a pecking order. It becomes
a great weight off our shoulders when we no longer seek power and mastery over others.
Real joy is found not in being served, but in choosing to serve.  Relating to my vision in life, I
could actually say that NOVADECI and I have the almost the same vision.

Once you have visualized what you want to achieve, setting the individual goals can be
incredibly gratifying, as is achieving them. Life happens around you, and once you know where
you are heading and how you do it, it is much easier to respond to life’s events. You will start to
see results and changes unfold as you live according your values with set direction. You know
where you going and it is then much more likely you actually get there.
