• Determine the Load Equivalency Factor for the vehicle shown below according to
Overseas Road Note-31.

What will be the ESAL for such 10000 vehicles? If the expected annual traffic growth
rate is 4% for such vehicles, determine the design ESAL for a design period of 20 years.

• Design a Bitumen Surfaced Road in a tropical country using following data according to
Road Note-31.

ESA = 2 x 106
Design CBR of Subgrade = 6%
Discuss all options/possibilities in this regard.

• Design a Flexible Pavement (rural interstate highway) according to AASHTO Method


using following data.

Design ESAL = 2 x 106


One week for water to be drained
Saturation level moisture exposure = 30% of the time
AC’s Mr at 68°F (20°C) = 450000 lb./in2
CBR of base course material = 100%
CBR of sub-base material = 22%
CBR of subgrade = 6%
