This study will analyze the effects of student leaders' profiles and involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities on their personality development and academic performance. It will survey student leaders from six technological universities in Region III of the Philippines. These universities were originally polytechnic colleges and have student populations suitable for the study. The researcher will use purposive sampling to select student leaders from the second and third years who were elected officers or leaders in the 2011-2012 school year. Data will be collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis to describe relationships between independent variables like gender, involvement, and dependent variables like personality and GPA.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study
This study will be concerned mainly on the analysis on the effects of student leaders’ profile and extent of involvement in co and extra-curricular activities to their personality development and academic performance. Covered by this study will be six technological state universities in Region III, namely: (1) Bulacan State University in City of Malolos, Bulacan; (2) Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University in Bacolor, Pampanga: (3) Bataan Peninsula State University in Balanga City, Bataan; (4) Tarlac State University in Tarlac City, Tarlac; (5) Ramon Magsaysay Technological University in Iba, Zambales; and (6) Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. The students particularly the student leaders of these universities will be included as respondents of the study since all of them are classified as technological and/or polytechnic state universities. These six universities mentioned-above started basically as polytechnic college. In fact, BulSU was known then as Bulacan College of Arts and Trades; DHVTSU was then Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades; BPSU was then Bataan Polytechnic State College; TSU was formerly known as Tarlac College of Technology; Ramon Magsaysay Technological University was started as Ramon Magsaysay School of Arts and Trades; and NEUST was known before as Central Luzon Polytechnic College. On the other hand, Bulacan Agricultural State College in San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Pampanga Agricultural College in Magalang, Pampanga; and Tarlac College of Agriculture in Camiling, Tarlac will not be considered as respondents because they were classified as agricultural colleges. The Aurora State College in Baler, Aurora, will not be included also as respondent of this study due to the fact that its student population is very small compared to the six state universities which are mentioned earlier. The Philippine State College for Aeronautics in Basa Airbase, Floridablanca, Pampanga, and Philippine Merchant Marine Academy in San Narciso, Zambales will not be used also as respondents of this study because they are classified under the DBM-NCR coverage and also categorized as special colleges which means that they are offering specialized courses exclusively for their institutions only such as Aeronautics and Marine-related courses. The researcher will use purposive sampling in choosing the subject of this study. This type of sampling procedure is used when the researcher wants to assess a particular subject of people. When taking the sample, according to Patton (1990), reject people who do not fit a particular profile, subjects are selected because of some characteristics. Purposive sampling starts with a purpose in mind and the sample is thus selected to include people of interest and exclude those who do not suit the purpose. For this purpose, the respondents will be limited to second and third year college students who have been elected as officers of the class and/or organizations or have been student leaders during the first semester of the school year 2011- 2012. The researcher believed that these student leaders are good representatives of their institutions since they are directly involved in the co and extra-curricular programs of their institutions thus, they can determine and assess the effects of students’ involvement in such activities to their personality development and academic performance. Through networking system particularly with the use of cellular phone and/or telephone, the researcher will contact different school administrators of the six state universities in Region III who can provide her the data needed to accomplish this study. The researcher will ask permission from the University President and Dean/Director for Student Affairs through a letter of request signed by the dean of the Graduate School to conduct the study and distribute the questionnaires. Likewise, the respondents will be informed properly with regards to the basic purpose of the study and they will be given ample time to accomplish the questionnaire. They will also assured of the confidentiality of their answers. This study will also use descriptive type of research. According to Van Dalen (1993), descriptive method of investigation is effective in describing the status of phenomena. It is not simply a routine fact finding activity. Its strength lies in describing status and identifying the relationship between and among variables. Hence, this method will suit the purpose of describing and analyzing the effects of students’ involvement in co and extra-curricular activities to their personality development and academic performance. The variables of this study will be categorized as independent (student leaders’ profile i.e. gender, course, religion, and total monthly family income; and various activities involved in by the students like co and extra- curricular activities) and dependent (effects of students’ involvement in co and extra-curricular activities to their personality development vis a vis moral, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual). For purposes of this study, the students’ grade point average (GPA) will be used as a measure of their academic performances. This will be done through proper coordination with the offices of the MIS (Management Information System) and/or the University Registrar of each respective respondent institution. Each of the independent variables (IVs) and dependent variables (DVs) will be described and quantified using the descriptive statistics of percent, mean, rank, and standard deviation. The effects of each of the independent variables (IVs) on each of the dependent variables (DVs) will be determined by the Standard Multiple Regression Analysis. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) will also be utilized to facilitate the processing and interpretation of data.
