Homework 1

1. Read the “Scope and Application” clause of the National Building Code of the
Philippines and its referral laws. Enumerate the scopes and give an insight as to how
they resemble or differ.
Scope of the referral laws of NBCP:
 National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP)
o The provisions of this code shall apply to the construction, alteration, moving,
demolition, repair, maintenance and use of buildings, towers and other vertical
structures within this jurisdiction.
 Architectural Code of the Philippines (ACP)
o Design and construction, repair, alteration, renovation and use of any
building and other structures for human habitation and all activities of human
endeavor, including the architectural aspects of infrastructure projects such as
roads, bridges and the like.
 Philippine Green Building Code (GB Code)
o For relevant buildings to regulate their location, site, planning, design, quality
of material, construction, use, occupancy, operation and maintenance.
 Fire Code of the Philippines (Republic Act 9514)
o Standard fire prevention and safety measures, and promote accountability in
the fire protection and prevention service.
 Revised National Plumbing Code of the Philippines
o The plumbing systems: water supply, sewage collection and disposal and
stormwater drainage involve the right choice of materials, the economical
design of the systems and their proper operation and maintenance.
o Supply of adequate hot, cold and chilled water, the efficient conveyance and
disposal of wastewater such as food wastes and human excreta from plumbing
fixtures.
 Code on Sanitation of the Philippines (Presidential Decree 856)
o Administer various health activities and services which shall include public
health, preventive, curative and rehabilitative programs, medical care, health
and medical education.
 Electrical Code of the Philippines (PEC)
o This Code covers the installation of electrical conductors, equipment, and
raceways; signaling and communications conductors, equipment, and
raceways; and optical fiber cables and raceways installed within or on public
and private buildings, including but not limited to residential, commercial,
industrial, institutional, cultural, agricultural, agro-industrial, planned unit
development and all other buildings/premises that may require practical
safeguarding of persons and property from the hazards arising from the use of
electricity.

 These scopes from the referral laws of the National Building Code will be used as a
basis for all of the requirements if someone wants to construct a building. Several
things are needed to be considered when it comes to construction of the building, this
will ensure that we follow the standards and criteria given by the government. Upon
researching, I have noticed that these referral laws differ on the functions or role they
take on the construction of an infrastructure. Each referral law has different part
within the construction. But overall, it aims for the structural integrity and the safety
of the people who will use the building.
