INTRODUCTION: -
The Protagonist in The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Changez,
fights to find his character inside the western culture. The move from
contemplating one's self to one's nation and country is reflected doubtlessly in
this novel.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS OF CHANGEZ: -

Changez's subjectivity changes throughout the novel, he is changed from a
monetary fundamentalist into an enemy of America and activist. In this paper we
will dissect changez's character in many ways.

• Changez’s Dual Identity : -

The Changez issues of Identity in The Reluctant
Fundamentalists are so much apparent. This outcomes from the association
among Erica (an American lady), Changez, (a Pakistani Muslim) and Chris,
(Erica's ex-boyfriend). Moreover, for example, when he goes to the Philippines,
he makes a decent attempt to show that he is one; nonetheless, the manner in
which white Americans are dealt with is not the same as his treatment. He can't
get away from his social character and feels embarrassed about that. He rebukes
himself for deciding to be an American when he needs to be found in an ideal
position. The battles between the two identities are solid.
He grins when he first is aware of the assault on the World Trade Center. Not on
the grounds that he is a horrible individual or appreciates carnage, however in the
rear of his psyche he considers it to be a triumph. He states,
“I was caught........................... to her knees".
The defining moment in his identity battle is the point at which he returns to New
York. He encounters the post 9/11 America direct.

• Changez’s Cultural Hybridity: -

Cultural hybridity permits Changez to
see the two societies one next to the other. Notwithstanding, it is contorted and
influenced by political issues. Changez battles to stay in the middle of, yet his
own, social and political encounters cause him to take an outrageous standing.
“I was looking....................... your country's elite”.
His demeanour towards his home changes in a second. In a similar page, he sees
his home as a Pakistani, as a child, and as an individual who experienced
childhood in it and thinks about how he starts to be what he hates the most. He
understands that he, at the end of the day, has changed. He understands that being
ceaselessly in an alternate culture has transformed him and feels upset by this
acknowledgment.
In addition, Changez acclimatizes American culture, and falls energetically
infatuated with Erica. Assimilation is another quality of his identity:
“I attempted to........................................respect as well”.

• Changez’s Hybrid Nature: -

Changez hybrid nature enables him to view one
and the same situation through the eyes of an American and a Pakistani. He states
after vising Lahore,
“I recall the Americanness..................................reupholstery and repair”.
And he also talked about,
“I was saddened................................... smacked of lowliness”.

• Changez As a Victim of Politics: -

When he goes on a business trip to Chile,
he is overcome by his emotions and perplexed by what's happening in his country.
He sees the true colours of politics.
“My blinders were..............................................arc of vision".
He realizes that he never approves of the way America dealing with other
countries. He stated that,
“Conducted itself in ….....................................affairs of others”.
CONCLUSION: -
Hence, in the paper we have seen that how the character of changez
fluctuates and changes through out in the different circumstances like he faced
identity crises, suffers from cultural duality and politics.
