Welcome to TNW Basics, a collection of tips, guides and tips on how easy it is to get most of your gadgets, apps and other things. I get it when it comes to WhatsApp, Messenger, Gmail and Instagram, but you have to be an absolute model of a person wanting to turn on the dark mode on Google Play. But it turns out that there are enough samples out there
for Big G to implement a dark theme for its mobile software distribution platform. The company has announced dark mode is now available for all Android devices - so we might as well jump steps as you can incorporate it. Read: This pirate radio pays for Netflix, HBO and Disney, so you don't have to it's actually quite simple: Open Google Play and go to
Settings. In the settings, go to the Theme menu. Choose Dark (or System Default if you're already on Dark Mode throughout the system from Android settings). You're done. If you were hoping to protect your eyes with a dark mode, I feel it is my responsibility to bring it to your attention that researchers have found dark themes are not as good as you think.
However, if you just prefer to look - then go for it. Google also
acknowledged that its material design initiative uses white as the primary color. Dark mode is visually appealing to many people, but it also helps to extend battery life if your device has an OLED display. Google re-emerged this moment during its Android Dev Summit and confirmed that dark mode puts significantly less strain on the battery than anything
else, reported SlashGear. The slideshow (in one hour, 17 minutes, 50 seconds) contains several spirit points such as higher brightness resulting in higher power to draw. Where things picked up a bit was with the following slide, which compared Google Pixel and iPhone 7 power draw while on maximum brightness in normal mode and night mode. Keep in
mind that the original Pixel has an OLED display, while the iPhone 7 has an LCD panel. The results between the two phones were comparable as usual, although the results showed a much greater discrepancy with the night mode. The current Pixel draw was 92mA, while the iPhone 7 was 230mA. This makes sense, since OLED displays have separate
pixels that barely work on dark sections of the screen. LCD panels, by comparison, have all their pixels illuminated no matter what is shown on the screen. Things got even more interesting with one of the charts that showed major differences with the current draw between black and white while the display was at maximum brightness. While white uses the
most energy, energy, the least amount was exhausted. Oddly enough, this led Google to admit that it shot itself in the foot, using white as the primary color with a material design. Specifically, with its updated Material Design initiative, Google stripped most of the colors in its apps and chose white for backgrounds and interfaces. The good news is that Google
is well aware of this and has thrown in dark modes for apps like YouTube, Messages, Google News, and Phone. We can assume that the dark mode will eventually make it more of a Google application, although I'm sure many people will also appreciate the system throughout the dark theme. Some android manufacturers are ahead of the curve when it
comes to supporting the dark regime. Samsung has just announced that its new one user interface will include system support for dark mode, while EMUI Huawei already has a large dark mode on phones like the Mate 20 Pro. With many of Google's apps getting a dark treatment mode, app developer Jane Manchun Wong said today on Twitter's Google One
app could be next in line to get a dark coat of paint. Based on Wong's screenshots, the dark Google One mode is more of a dark gray mode than a true black dark mode. It's not necessarily bad - the contrast between gray and white isn't as stark as the contrast between black and white. This means that your eyes will adapt better to the gray background.
Jane Manchun Wong Tam also has an advantage with readability. Scroll text and quick movements almost smear when there is a true black background. Meanwhile, the fright doesn't show nearly as much on the dark grey background. READ ALSO: Google One vs. Competitors: Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud and moreIt's no surprise to see a dark grey theme,
as other Google apps have a similar gray for their dark modes. However, some will be disappointed by the lack of true black for the background. We don't know when Google plans to roll out the dark mode into the Google One app. However, it's nice to see Google constantly working on the app. Last week, the company announced an automatic backup of
phones via Google One for subscribers. visit, and you can press the Dark Reader button on the toolbar to customize it. You can also disable the dark mode for the website from here. The extension even allows you to install sites to never open in dark, which is useful if Dark Reader doesn't work well with the website.
