This activity is crucial to the whole programme experience and requires a degree of work

before coming to the session. Please read the following instructions carefully and work with
your group accordingly.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Work with the group you have been assigned to research the problems faced by the province you
have been assigned.

Generate a budget for your province that most effectively works towards solving your respective
provinces’ problems along with the four basic ones that are listed on page two (education, food,
infrastructure, healthcare). While working, please keep in mind the statistics given in the table
below and feel free to look up any further statistics that you think might help you.

Please discuss amongst your group and note any thoughts, feelings, ideas or findings that come
up during this stage.

You will be given 3 minutes to present the budget to the other provinces the following session.
If any queries arise please feel free to contact your respective programme managers.

The groups will be given the following budgets:


 Punjab: 8 billion USD
 Sindh: 4 billion USD
 KPK: 3 billion USD
 Balochistan: 1.5 billion USD

Key Definitions:
Gross Domestic Product (GDP): the total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services
produced within a province's borders in a specific time period. As a broad measure of overall domestic
production, it functions as a comprehensive scorecard of the province’s economic health.

The Human Development Index (HDI): A single index measure that aims to record the three key dimensions
of human development: access to knowledge, a decent standard of living, and long and healthy life. In other
words, the human development index is practised to measure how development has improved human life.
