3 Definition
3.3 Lot
A group of articles offered for acceptance from the same manufacturer, of the same
design and manufactured under presumed similar conditions of production. One or more
lots may be offered together for acceptance; the lot(s) offered may consist of the whole, or
part, of the quantity ordered
4 Kinds
The kinds of mid span tension joint are listed in Table 1 of this specification. Applicable
conductor is the conductor made in accordance with IEC 60189.

5 Requirements
The mid span tension joint shall be of the full tension type suitable for mid span tension
jointing ACSR, AAC, AAAC and earth wire (ACS : Aluminum-clad steel stranded
conductor). The detailed dimensions shall conform to the requirements shown in Figure 1
and 2 of this specification. Mid span tension joint shall conform to the physical and
mechanical requirements as follows.
5.1 Material
5/14
extruded aluminum in accordance with ISO 209-1 and steel tube made from galvanized
steel in accordance with ISO 630.
6/14
to compress on surface of aluminum and steel tube.
6 Tests
The supplier shall carry out the Type tests, Sample tests and Routine tests in accordance
with the latest edition of IEC 61284 and as specified in this specification.
All mid span tension joints are to be checked for compliance with this specification and
with the ordering quantity. GECOL reserves the rights to ask for tests to confirm the
quality of mid span tension joint in the presence of GECOL representatives.
All test reports of the below defined and executed tests shall be submitted to GECOL for
approval within one week after the completion of the tests.
6.1 Sampling
Test specimens shall be selected at random from each inspection lot (or articles) in
accordance with ISO 2859-1. The number of samples selected from each lot shall comply
with Table 2 of this specification.
Table 2 - Number of test samples
Lot size Sample size Lot size Sample size

6.3 Retest
If only one sample fail to comply with the sample tests, a new sample equal to twice the
quantity of originally submitted to that test shall be subjected to re-testing. If two or more
samples fail to comply with any of the sample tests, or if any failure occurs during re-
testing, the complete lot is considered as not complying with this specification and shall be
withdrawn by manufacturer.
7 Marking
Marking shall ensure the system of traceability for each component of the fittings. The
marks shall be indelibly embedded on suitable position. The characters shall be English
capital roman letters and Arabic numeral characters. The manufacture shall mark as
follows;
(a) Identification of fittings
(b) Manufacturer’s identification
(c) Year of manufacture
(d) Applicable conductor size or code name
(e) Compression starting and finishing point
(f) Number of compression and dies reference

approved by GECOL)
9.3 Documentation
All documents supplied under this specification shall be documented to the extent that
the end user can easily understand its theory of operation, performance, installation and
maintenance for the product. All documents shall be submitted being filed in order to
approve of GECOL and reorder later.
Language in all documents and drawings shall be written in English and dimensions
shall be used in metric SI-units.
10 Warranty
The supplier shall provide a full one-year limited warranty on all articles supplied. The
warranty shall cover all parts and all costs, which are directly attributable to the supplier.
Warranty coverage shall begin on the date that the articles are received.
