EXPERIMENT NO. 1

1.0 Title :

To know your Applied Electronics Laboratory.

2.0 Prior Concept :

• Curriculum contents ,scope of work, planning assessment

The list of practicals / Experiments to be performed in this subject.

3.0 New concepts :

Proposition 1: Laboratory Experiments.

These are expected to develop intellectual skills, motor skills and attitudes in students.

Proposition 3 : Concept of safety.

As instruments having electronic circuits can be dangerous hence safety practices are necessary
to be followed to prevent electrical shocks, fires, mechanical damage and injuries resulting from
improper use of tools.

Proposition 4 : Precaution while handling laboratory equipment.

• Always follow the procedure given for conducting the practical.
• Use service manuals are as often as possible because they often contain safety information.
• Think before you act.
• When ever doubt, don’t act, ask your instructor or teacher.
Proposition 5 :
As an electronic technician or engineer, a wide variety of electronic equipment’s are to be
handled and maintained. Some of the basic test equipment’s are as given below.

5.1 Digital Multimeter (DMM) :

DMM is used to measure the voltage, current of resistance in an electronic circuit. Most DMM’s
also have provision for testing capacitors, diodes and transistors, the meter may be either hand
held or desk top unit.

5.2 Oscilloscope :

The basic function is to view and measure ac waveforms. Most oscilloscope have dual trace
capabilities, which mean that they can display two waveforms at the same time.

5.3 Power Supply :

The power supply is a unit capable of supplying ac/dc voltage and current to electronic circuit
under test. Modern power supplies have regulated outputs. This means that their output voltage
doesn’t fluctuate as load current varies. Most power supplies a red jack is used for the positive
terminal and black jack is used for the negative terminal .

5.4 Function Generator :

Function generator is a piece of test equipment capable of producing a number of different output
waveforms such as sine, square, triangular, saw tooth and pulse. Function generators are used
while designing, developing, trouble shooting and testing of electronic equipment. All function
generators have controls to adjust the amplitude, frequency and shape of the output waveform.

5.5 Breadboard :

An arrangement in which components are fastened temporarily for experimental work.

Assembling an electronic circuit in the most convenient manner on a board or other flat surface,
without regard for final location of components, to prove the feasibility of the circuit and to make
changes when necessary.
Standard breadboards for experimental works are made with mounting holes and terminal closely
spread at regular intervals so that parts can be mounted and connected without drilling additions
holes.

4.0 Stepwise Procedure :

• Read the learning overview carefully.
• Listen to the lecture given by the teacher about the importance of subject, curriculum philosophy,
graphical structure and skills to be developed, information about equipment’s, instruments and
procedure method of continuos assessments and tentative plan of work in laboratory.
• Visit the laboratory for types of equipment’s, instruments, materials to be used while performing
experiment.
