NOTES:
*1. Capacities are based on the following conditions:
Capacities are net, including a deduction for cooling (and addition for heating) for indoor fan motor heat.

Model Cooling Heating Piping Length Standard

o o o o
Indoor 27 CDB, 19 CWB 20 CDB 15 CWB
o o o o
7.5m (Horizontal) ASNZS3823 1.2
Outdoor 35 CDB, 24 CWB 7 CDB, 6 CWB

*2. The capacities include a deduction for defrost.

*3. AFR (Air Flow Rate), ESP (External Static Pressure) and SPL (Sound Pressure Level) are shown at 230V
*4. The indoor sound levels are determined in accordance with AS 1217.2-1985.
*5. Outdoor sound levels are determined in an anechoic chamber and may differ once the unit is
installed due to ambient conditions. Ambient noise may increase sound levels during operation.
*6. Air filter must be installed at time of installation.
*7. Width dimension includes the electrical box.

REFRIGERANT PIPING WORK

ALL REFRIGERANT PIPING WORK MUST ONLY BE CARRIED OUT BY A QUALIFIED PERSON
** For refrigerant piping of outdoor units, see the installation manual attached to the outdoor unit. **
Fully insulate the liquid and gas piping separately. Do not leave any gaps otherwise a water leak may occur.
(Seal any joints with glue or duct tape)
When operating in the heating mode, the temperature of the gas piping can reach up to approximately 120o C,
so use insulation which has a suitable temperature rating.
Also, in cases where the temperature and humidity surrounding the refrigerant piping can exceed 30o C or RH
80%, reinforce or use thicker pipe insulation (20 mm or thicker). Otherwise condensation may form on the
surface of the insulating material.
** Be sure to check the type of refrigerant to be used before doing any work. Using an incorrect refrigerant
will prevent normal operation of the unit. ** In case of FDYQ50-60DV1, FDYQ(N)71F & FDYQ(N) 100-160K
model(s) = R410a
CAUTION
l Avoid introduction of air or other contaminents into the refrigerant piping. If any air, moisture or other contaminent

remains in the refrigerant piping after the completion of installation the system will malfunction.
l Carry out sufficient ventilation if the refrigerant gas leaks during installation work.

l Use only R410a rated copper seamless tube manufactured to AS/NZS1571.

l Be sure to use both a spanner and torque wrench together, as shown in the diagram, when connecting or
disconnecting pipes to/from the unit. (Fig. 7)
l Use only a flaring block suitable for R410a tube. Refer to Table 2 for the specifications of the flare work.
l When connecting the flare nut, coat the flare both inside and outside with ether oil and initially tighten
by hand 3 or 4 turns before tightening firmly. (Fig. 8)
l Use the flare nuts included with the indoor unit.
l Refer to Table 2 to determine the proper tightening torque.
CAUTION
l Over tightening the flare nuts may cause the flare nuts or copper tube to fail and allow the refrigerant to leak.

l Caution to be taken when brazing refrigerant piping. (Where applicable)

Do not use flux when brazing refrigerant piping. Use the phosphor copper brazing filler metal (BCuP)
which does not require flux. (Flux has an extremely harmful influence on refrigerant piping systems. For
instance, if chlorine based flux is used, it will cause pipe corrosion, particularly if the flux contains fluorine, it will
damage the refrigerant oil.)
During any brazing of the refrigerant piping, you must continually blow dry nitrogen gas through the piping to
expel air from the piping. (Fig. 9) If you braze the piping without doing so a large amount of oxide film
develops inside the piping and could cause system failure.
Ensure that you use a pressure reducing valve on the dry nitrogen bottle to prevent pinholes caused by
excessively high pressure. (Set the pressure of nitrogen gas to about 0.2 kg / cm2 [19.6 kPa])

12.7 (1/2") 30 to 60 degrees Approx. 250mm

15.9 (5/8") 30 to 60 degrees Approx. 300mm

Make absolutely sure to properly insulate the connecting pipe work and connections using field supplied
insulation after checking for gas leakage.
CAUTION
Be sure to insulate local piping all the way into the pipe connections inside the machine. Exposed piping may
cause condensation or burns on contact.

DRAIN PIPING WORK

WARNING Install the drain pipe as shown below and take measures against condensation, improperly
installed piping may result in water leaks and eventually wet furniture and belongings.

(1) Installing
l Route the pipes so as to ensure that drainage can occur with no problems. (Fig. 10)

l Employ piping with either the same diameter or with the diameter larger
(excluding the raised section) than that of the connecting pipe (PVC
pipe, nominal diameter 25 mm, outside diameter 32 mm).
l Keep the drain pipe short and sloping downward at a gradient of
at least 1/100 to prevent air pockets from forming.
l To prevent the drain pipe from sagging, secure the pipe every
1 to 1.5 m.
l Use the provided drain hose 2 and clamp 1 . (Fig. 11)
Tighten the clamp firmly.
WRONG CORRECT
l Insulate the metal clamp with a field supplied sealing pad. (Fig. 11) Fig. 10
l Insulate the drain hose inside the building.

l As a safety measure, please use a safety drain tray (field supplied) and drain separately.

l Insulate drain pipe using piping thermal insulation to prevent condensate dripping during humid conditions.

Note
l To ensure no excessive pressure is applied to the included drain hose 2 , do not bend or twist when
installing. (This may cause leakage.)

CAUTION
Drain piping connections.
Do not connect the drain piping directly to sewage pipes. Drainage must conform to local plumbing regulations.
The vapour in the sewage might enter the indoor unit through the drain pipes and corrode the heat exchanger
or escape into the room.

PRECAUTIONS
Precaution for wiring on site
When connecting the indoor unit to a single phase of a 3 phase power supply, give consideration to the other
electrical equipment connected to the main breaker and select the phase (L1, L2, L3) so that the current (or
voltage) unbalance does not occur.
If current unbalance occurs, the phase current of the compressor may become unbalanced and there is a risk of
protective device actuating or compressor breakdown.
l Do not clamp remote controller cords together with wires connecting the units together. Doing so may cause

malfunction.
l Remote controller cords and wires connecting the units should be located at least 50 mm from other electric

wires. Not following this guideline may result in malfunction due to electrical noise.
Observe the notes mentioned below when wiring to the power supply terminal block. Precautions to be taken for
power supply wiring.
(Use a round crimp-style terminal for connection to the power supply terminal block. (Fig. 15) In case it cannot be
used due to unavoidable reasons, be sure to observe the following instructions.)
l Do not connect wires of different gauge to the same power supply terminal. (Fig. 16)
(Looseness in the connection may cause overheating.)
l When connecting wires of the same gauge, connect them according to the figure below.

l Make certain that prescribed wires are used, carry out complete connections, and secure the wires so that

outside forces are not applied to the terminals.

DRAIN PIPING WORK

WARNING
The drain pipe must be installed as shown in the diagram below to avoid water damage caused by
leaks and condensation.
• Assemble the unit as shown in Fig. 12.
• For best results, try to keep the piping as short as possible. Slant the piping at an angle to improve flow (the
drain pipe provided with the indoor unit has a PT 3/4 internal thread). Fig. 12.
• Securely insulate the drain pipe.
• It is necessary to provide a drain trap in the drain outlet to relieve negative pressure that exists within the unit
compared to the outside atmospheric pressure when the unit is operating. If a drain trap is not provided,
condensation carry over or an odour may occur.
• Keep pipes as straight as possible for easy cleaning and to prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris.
• Pour water in the drain pan to test the drainage.
• Always use an extra safety drain pan (field supplied) to cover the entire area of the indoor unit.
• Insulate drain pipe using piping thermal insulation to prevent condensate dripping during humid conditions.
CAUTION
Drain piping connections. Do not connect the drain piping directly to sewage pipes. Drainage must conform to
local plumbing regulations. The vapour in the sewage might enter the indoor unit through the drain pipes and
corrode the heat exchanger or escape into the room.

CAUTION
Precautions for wiring
• When connecting the indoor unit, give consideration to the other electrical equipment connected to the main
breaker and select the phase (L1, L2, L3) so that current (or voltage) unbalance does not occur. If current
unbalance occurs, the phase current of the compressor may become unbalanced and there is a risk of
protective device actuating or compressor breakdown.
• Do not clamp the remote controller cord or F1/F2 cord together with electrical wires. Doing so may cause a
malfunction.
• Remote controller cords and wires connecting the units should be located at least 50 mm from other electric
wires. Not following this guideline may result in malfunction due to electrical noise.
• Use a round crimp-style terminal for connection to the power supply terminal board. (Fig. 15) Where this is not
possible due to unavoidable reasons, be sure to observe the following instructions.
Do not connect wires of different gauge to the same power supply terminal. (Fig. 16). Looseness in the
connection will cause overheating.
When connecting wires of the same gauge, connect them according to the figure below.
• Make certain that prescribed wires are used, carry out complete connections, and secure the wires so that
outside forces are not transmitted to the terminals.
• Shielded wire is recommended for transmission wiring to comply with EMI (AS/NZSCISPR14.1)
• Use double insulation wire for the remote controller and ON-OFF Input T1, T2 (Sheath thickness is 1mm or
more) or run wires through a wall or conduit so that the user cannot come in contact with them.
• Run transmission wiring separate from power supply wiring. Ensure transmission and power supply wiring is
protected by conduit against external forces.
• After connecting the wires, be sure that no pressure is applied to the wire connections by using cable ties and
securing them to the anchor points. Also, when wiring, make sure the lid of the terminal box fits snugly by
arranging the wires neatly and attaching the terminal box lid firmly. When attaching the terminal box lid, make
sure no wires get caught under the edges.
• Make sure the remote control cord or the wiring between the units (ie F1/F2) do not pass through the same
locations outside the unit as any other electrical wiring. Separate them by at least 50 mm, otherwise electrical
noise could cause a malfunction or damage to the unit. 50mm is considered the minimum for domestic
applications where there is relatively low current flowing in other electrical wiring. In applications where high
current or voltage is present in nearby electrical wiring additional separation will be required.

SEPARATING THE INDOOR UNIT (if required)

To facilitate installation, the indoor unit can be easily separated into 2 sections making it lighter to carry and easier to
maneuver through openings and in the ceiling.
ATTENTION: Separate the indoor unit only when necessary. Disassemble and reassemble on a flat surface.
Separate the indoor unit in the following order.
1. Remove the two side lock straps. (Fig. 26)
2. Unscrew the top cover of the heat exchanger section. (Fig. 26)
3. Unscrew the three M8 bolts securing the two sections. (Fig. 27)

loose expansion valve motor cable in the fan deck section of the unit.
b) Remove the electrical box cover and unplug the air and two heat exchanger thermistors (Plugs X11A, X12A
and X13A) (Fig. 28)
c) Carefully un-clip the three thermistor leads and push the leads through the back of the electrical box.
d) un-clip the thermistor leads from inside the fan deck section.
5. Carefully unlatch the heat exchanger section from the fan deck section (Fig. 29) by lifting up the heat exchanger
section and then pulling away. Ensure that the thermistor or expansion valve motor cables do not catch on either
section as the unit is separated.
