FIRST QUARTER LISTENING TEST

Grade 10
(Teacher’s Spiel)

This activity is recorded and graded. This is the listening test for the first quarter. You will
have an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to understand spoken English. The test is
comprised of two parts.

In Part I, you will listen to a short sentence. Each sentence will be spoken just one time. The
sentences will not be written out for you. Therefore you must listen carefully to understand
what the speaker says. After each sentence, read the four choices written on PowerPoint
slides that will be shown. Decide which one is closest in meaning to the sentence you heard.
Write the letter of the correct answer on your answer sheet that is a half sheet of intermediate
paper cut crosswise. Erasures are not allowed.

1. I appreciate your offering me a ride, but I have my brother’s car. Thanks anyway.
2. Jane is a better student than her sister Jean.
3. My invitation has R.S.V.P. printed at the bottom.

Part II
In Part II, you will listen to a recording of an article. The recording will be played only one
time. You are allowed to take down notes and write at the back part of your paper. You are
not allowed to use another sheet of paper for your scratch work. After listening to the
recording, 10 questions will be asked and each is shown on a PowerPoint slide. Choices for
each question will not be provided so you have to write the answer. Erasures are allowed.
