IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE...
summer has gone and autumn has arrived! I don't know about you ladies, but this just so happens to be my
favorite time of the year. I mean, who doesn't love wearing chunky sweaters, drinking copious amounts of
tea and of course, making ajvar?!
With the arrival of autumn, now's a good time to reflect back on the experiences we made at camp, and the
things that we learned and took back with us to our home communities.
In this edition of the Gazette, Almira Alasani is featured in our She GLOWs section. Almira is a Camp
GLOW 2017 camper alum! Over in our Club Corner, Viktorija Andonova gives us some insight into what we
can expect from GLOW Club Kocani this year, you've got some exciting things planned! Lastly, you'll find
a section at the bottom of the Gazette dedicated to Camp GLOW 2017 Peace Corps Volunteer Staff who
will be leaving Macedonia soon!
Wishing you a fabulous next two months <3
GLOW Love,
Jessa Zerpoli
GLOW Outreach and Communications Coordinator

She GLOWs:
by Kim Cosby
"We may not be able to change things completely, but we can start it, the next
generation can complete it and our community moves forward." - Almira Alasani
Location: Struga
Radiating positive energy with her bright smile and optimistic attitude, Almira Alasani,
or Pinto, as she is a ectionately known by her new friends, is a forward-thinking young
woman. Almira works to improve the future by promoting volunteerism and youth
education in her community. She understands the importance of working with others.
In fact, she believes that a great leader must be honest, responsible and “one with the
community.” She understands that making a change can be di cult, but she
encourages others to try. When she’s not busy with her studies and community
activities, she enjoys watching comedies and reading adventure novels.
Prior to attending Camp GLOW, Almira considered herself a “shy girl who had a di cult
time talking to people.” However, her time at camp forced her to step outside of her
comfort zone and meet new people. Camp GLOW also helped her realize that “there is a

leader inside of me.” She recognizes the importance of strong, female role models and
she draws inspiration from other strong, women activists like Malala Yousafzai. Almira
aspires to be a strong, independent woman and, as a leader for the GLOW Club in
Struga, she encourages other young women in her community. She wants to be
remembered as a simple girl from a village who works hard for the future.
Almira Alasani was referred by United States Peace Corps Volunteer, Laura Harris. We
salute you and your passion for feminism awareness, community development and
self-expression, Almira! Keep leading by example, chasing your dreams and making a
positive impact on your community and the World!

CLUB CORNER
With the start of the new school year, we have changes in leadership. Our rst
focus is to regain membership and continue to grow our club. The way we are doing
that is by giving tasks to our current members to bring two friends with them to
the next meeting. To motivate them, we highlight one outstanding/spirited
member by giving them the "you rock" rock (they keep it till the next meeting).
We like to start our meetings with the songs and chants from camp, get everyone
excited and full of positive energy. In our club, we like to focus on cultural and
women's empowerment activities, as well as enjoying a few parties like Halloween
and New Years, and we have lessons on topics like special needs, femininity and

In our meetings we like to empower our girl power and wake the feminism in us by
meeting twice a month on Saturdays. For our future classes we have planned to
include lessons from the Health Expo, First Aid, gender studies and
healthy lifestyle. We have also planned our parties and service project,
fun activities like yoga, Zumba, watching a movie, henna and cooking American
dishes.
Since our last meeting, we have included a donation box to make access to supplies
for future meetings.
