1. Arriving at Rio de Janeiro by the airport Galeao (GIG) or
Tom Jobim International Airport and coming to my house
by public transportation
1.1 Taxi: The international airport is around 30 minutes far
from my house by taxi. Some taxi drivers have extra fees
for luggage. This is not a practice but it can happen.

The taxi you should take from the international airport is

the taxi that normally circulates in the city (the yellow one - see photo).

1.1.2 Reference to give to the taxi driver to come from the international airport to my
Guesthouse: give to the taxi driver the following the following reference: Largo das Neves (it
is 50 meters from my house). If you only give him the street n name, maybe, he will not know
how to arrive here. Ask him to go up Paula Mattos Street then Pintora Dijanira street. At the
end of this street is already Largo das Neves where you will see a church (which one is at the
corner of my street).

If you want I can send the same text in Portuguese. So, you can print it and give to the driver.

1.2 Bus: Alternatively, take a bus (see photo below) on the

Galeão Airport (GIG) and go to Santos Dumont Airport -
which is in the centre of Rio de Janeiro and very close to my
house.

1.2.1 From Santos Dumont Airport(the bus line last

stop): you can get a taxi to Santa Teresa. It will rise by Rua Cândido Mendes which is in
neighbourhood Gloria. This journey takes no more than 15 minutes.

2. Arriving at Rio de Janeiro by the bus station and coming

to my house by public transportation
From the bus station to my house get a taxi.
Rio de Janeiro has only one bus station which one is at Cidade Nova neighbourhood.
Advice: whenever you take a taxi, I advise you to see if the taximeter is on. Some taxi drivers
do not turn it on and at the end they give the price they think they should. That's against the
law and if the driver refuses to turn it leave the taxi and take another.
From my house to the bus station: get the bus TRO6/108 at Elione de Almeida street.

Just go up to my street and take the van (not the bus) in front of the church (it comes every
30 minutes). The van last stop is at Glória street.

this bus in the city centre is at Araújo Porto Alegre Street.

14. Some useful advices

1. Never ever sleep on the sand, unless you are with friends/partner. You will, maybe, awake
without your stuff;
2. Don´t carry your passport when you go out.
3. If you go, on your own, to the beach don´t leave your stuff with any person to them take
care of it. Even if this person seems to be very nice. You will, maybe, not find your stuff when
you come back;
4. If you have more than one credit card, leave one at home. In case you have problems, at
least, you have this second option.
5. At the Carnival, carry as less as you can. Some money and a credit card. Leave your mobile
at home, you will not need it, anyway.
6. Last but not least: Santa Teresa is safe? (that´s one of the most frequent questions my
guests make): Most of the time it is a safe place but if you walk around carrying a big camera
thinking you are visiting Sweden, you will have problems. So, try to behave more naturally
wherever you go in the city. And don't be neurotic just pay attention about how you are
behaving and which kind of signal you are transmitting. Be aware, not neurotic. Otherwise, you

12
will not enjoy the city.
