DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ENGINE BED

ABSTRACT:
In our project “DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ENGINE BED” is to
design and analysing of engine bed made up of cast iron by changing it structure
and to found out better efficient under static loading conditions using
solidworks software. The engine bed is captured from Mahindra Champion 3
Wheeler auto.

INTRODUCTION:

The Bedplate is the foundation on which the engine is built. It must be

rigid enough to support the weight of the rest of the engine, and maintain the
crankshaft, which sits in the bearing housings in the transverse girders, in
alignment. Larger engines have a fabricated bedplate.

LITERATURE REVIEW:

1. Maciej Mikulski et.al, The experiments described in the article aimed

at adjusting the engine test bed, its equipment and software to perform
comprehensive tests on a dual-fuel spontaneous combustion engine with
the main gas dose (methane or biogas) and a liquid fuel ignition dose. The
steps undertook during the tests included installing a new engine on the
engine test bed, installing its equipment and preparing a dual-fuel feed
system. The toxic emissions analysis system was also modified, thanks to
which a thorough research based on current test methods was possible. All
measurement devices were integrated and are governed by one system of data
acquisition and controlling, which ensures repeatable testing conditions. In
order to exercise better control over the oil pilot dose injection, the previously
used engine was replaced with a Common Rail one, which facilitates better
control over the pilot dose injection and ensures controlling the system
through an external driver. Providing the engine with a set of measurement
systems makes it possible to test it not only with reference to its power and
toxic emissions into the atmosphere, but also to the heat absorbed by the
cooling system, which enables testing engines for cogeneration units.

2. Md Bilalansari et.al, The engine block is the linchpin of vehicles that

run on internal combustion, providing the powerhouse for the vehicle. It is
called a "block" because it is usually a solid cast car part, housing the cylinders
and their components inside a cooled and lubricated crankcase. This part is
designed to be extremely strong and sturdy, because its failure results in failure
of the car, which will not function until the engine block is replaced or repaired.
Most engine blocks are made of cast iron, although in the late 1990s, some
made from plastic and other experimental materials were being used in
prototype cars with the hope of developing more lightweight, efficient vehicles.
Cylinders blocks are under goes high thermal and structural loads. The main
objective of the project is to study the thermal and structural load determination
in engine blocks. The engine block design is done in solid works simulation and
analysis of structural and thermal analysis carried out in solid works simulation

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION:

According to the regular design there must be damaged in bed rubber

located along within it. By optimising the design, we could obtain better result.

CONCLUSION:

The main aim of project is to design and analysing the regular design &
also to design and analysing the optimised model. By these values we had to
compare these results and to found out the better design i.e. which must be more
efficient at loading conditions.
