GRIDDED CASSETTE

>This are cassette which have stationary secondary radiation grid incorporated in the front of
the cassette between the intensifying screen and the front part of the cassette. Details of the grid
such as its ratio, should be identified on the outside of the cassette. Gridded cassette usually have
normal size as the normal cassette but have a limited choice of grid ratios. This cassette are used
where a convectional bucky system is unavailable example in the ward radiography.

Function

- The main function of this cassette is to reduce the scattered radiations and improve image
contrast in the mobile x-rays where mostly does not consist of the intensifying screen.
These cassettes are used in ward radiography.

4. MULTISECTION CASSETTES

>This are cassettes used in tomography where they are used to produce a set of films
each bearing an image with different layer height within the body per one radiographic
exposure. It’s designed to hold 3-7 films of about 5-10 mm thickness with their
respective spacers.
- In multiple radiography procedures, the cassette is loaded with a set of films
varying speed of intensifying screen but not spacers. The difference/variation in
intensifying screen speed results to difference in image density range and contrast in one
radiographic exposure.
Functions
- It’s used to produce multiple image (set of films) under one exposure of the patient’s body
part.
- It’s also used to produce images with different varies of densities and contrast within single
exposure of the required body part.

Other uncommon types of

cassette

 VACUUM CASSETTE. This are cassettes made from flexible vinyl material. It
have a valve attached at one end. It’s made mainly for the use in mammography
and in joint radiography due to patients’ inherent flexibility for proper
positioning.
 FORMATTER CASSETTES. This are frames designed to hold two films with
single sided film emulsion and do not contain intensifying screens. Used in
imaging from CRT and TV monitors in Ultrasound, Nuclear medicine, CT, DSA
and MRI machines. Also used in Video imager.
 ANGIOGRAPHY CASSETTE. This is a type of film which can hold up to 30
sheets of film. It’s used in angiography.
