Friction Problems (non equilibrium)

1) A passenger is pulling on the strap of a 15.0 kg suitcase with a force of 70.0N. The strap makes an angle
of 35.0º above the horizontal. A 37.8N friction force opposes the motion (horizontal) of the suitcase.
Determine the acceleration of the suitcase.

2) A crate is resting on the bed of a moving truck. The coefficient of static friction between the crate and
the truck bed is 0.40. The driver hits the brakes. Assuming the truck is traveling on level ground,
determine the maximum deceleration that the truck can have without the crate slipping forward relative to
the truck.

3) A 20.0 kg sled is being pulled across a horizontal surface at constant velocity. The pulling force has a
magnitude of 80.0N and is directed at an angle of 30.0º above the horizontal. Determine the coefficient of
kinetic friction.
