1.A truck is moving with a velocity of 30m/s and it takes 5s to stop after the brakes are applied.
Calculate the force exerted by the brakes on the truck if its mass along with the passengers is
1500 kg.

2. A physics professor pushes a cart of demonstration equipment to a lecture hall as shown in


Figure below. Her mass is 65.0 kg, the cart’s mass is 12.0 kg, and the equipment’s mass is 7.0 kg.

a) Calculate the acceleration produced when the professor exerts a backward force of 150 N
on the floor. All forces opposing the motion, such as friction on the cart’s wheels and air
resistance, total 24.0 N.
b) Calculate the force the professor exerts on the cart in (Figure).
3. A force of 15 N is applied at an angle of 30° to the horizontal on a 0.750 kg block at rest on a
frictionless surface as shown in figure.
a) What is the magnitude of the resulting acceleration of the block?

4. The system shown in figure below is in equilibrium and the surfaces are rough. Draw 3
separate free body diagrams show all forces that act on each block.

5. Three wooden blocks connected by a rope of negligible mass are being dragged by a
horizontal force, F in figure below. Suppose that F = 1000 N, m1 = 3 kg, m2 = 15 kg and m3 =
30 kg. Determine
a) the acceleration of blocks system.
b) the tension of the rope, T1 and T2.
(Neglect the friction between the floor and the wooden blocks.)
6. A man pulls a sled of mass 75 kg along a horizontal surface at constant velocity. The
coefficient of kinetic friction between the sled and the snow is 0.10 and the angle θ = 42°. What
is the magnitude of the force T on the sled from the man?

7. A dump truck slowly tilts its bed upward to dispose of a 95 kg crate. For small angles of tilt
the crate stays put, but when the tilt angle exceeds 23.2° the crate begins to slide. What is the
coefficient of static friction between the bed of the truck and the crate?
8. Two blocks with masses of m1 = 2 kg, m2 = 5 kg are connected by a string that passes over a
frictionless pulley as shown in figure below. The coefficient of friction between the table and
m1 is 0.03. Find the acceleration of the system.

9. Suppose that F = 1000 N, m1 = 3 kg, m2 = 15 kg and m3 = 30 kg. Determine


a) the acceleration of blocks system.
b) the tension of the rope, T1 and T2.

10. Two objects of masses m1 = 10 kg and m2 = 15 kg are connected by a light string which
passes over a smooth pulley as shown in figure. Calculate

11. A man of mass M = 75kg and woman of mass m= 55kg stand facing each other on an ice
rink, both wearing ice skates. The woman pushes the man with a horizontal force of F = 85 N in
the positive x-direction. Assume ice is frictionless.

12. Muhammad pulled a book of mass 2kg along a rough floor with a force of 10 N at 30o above
the horizontal plane as shown in the figure. If the velocity of the book is constant,

17. Two force acts on an object of mass 2.0 kg which is placed on a smooth horizontal surface, as

18. A 20 kg ball is supported from the ceiling by a rope A. Rope B pulls downward and to the
side on the ball. If the angle of A to the vertical is 20 and if B makes an angle of 50 to the
vertical as shown in Figure, determine the tension in ropes A and B.
