held in Paris.

Characteristics
Identifying an Art Deco building is not difficult, but familiar with some of these common elements.

Various motifs and ornamental details were applied to a building. Some common Art Deco motifs include

• Once the Great Depression hit, designers wanted to implement lavish Art
Deco styles, but they had to do so in a smart, practical, and budget-friendly
way.

• Builders adapted the style to more economical apartment buildings.

• More moderate designers were able to build basic structures and use
machine-made ornamentation relatively inexpensively.

• Decorative styles were reserved for the most prominent and visible
parts of a building, which also saved money.

• Early Art Deco designers wanted to create a style that no one had seen before. Unlike Tudor Revival
or Classical Revival, the movement was an aesthetic that hadn’t been seen in buildings before.

• The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco–style skyscraper in the Turtle Bay neighborhood

tallest building for 11 months after its completion in 1930.

• His inventive use of industrial materials for decorative caught the attention of the Rockefeller Center, Inc., which

consulting firm.

INTRODUCTION

Tiruppur, city, western Tamil Nadu state, south-central India. It lies on an upland plateau, on the Noyil River (a tributary of the
Kaveri [Cauvery] River), about 25 miles (40 km) east of Coimbatore.
Art Deco buildings predate modern architecture.

Tiruppur is an active cotton-ginning and distribution centre with rail connections to Coimbatore and to Erode to the northeast.
The city became a major centre for the manufacture of cotton knit textiles late in the 20th century.
