INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR UNDER GROUND HV CABLES:

 Prior to start the installation of HV cables, refer the approved drawings and related to
the area of Installation.
 Ensure the approved required materials are available in the site.
 Ensure the approve materials are stored properly and there is no mark of damage.
 The cable drum should be inspected before shifting to site for any damage during
transportation.
 Ensure the Installation of HV cables are carried out as per applicable standards or
manufacture recommendations.
 The total cable route shall be inspected to ensure the routing is complete as per
approved drawings and free from any sharp edges etc. And coordinated with other
external services.
 Size and length of the cable should be checked by Engineer in charge and site
supervisor before cutting the HV cables.
 As per cable schedule, site supervisor will ensure the cable drums are shifted to the
required locations.
 Ensure the availability of required machineries like Hydra, jockey and rollers etc.
 Cable drums are to be positioned on the jockeys and cable end to be left from the top.
 Rollers are to be installed in regular intervals according to the cable route.
 While pulling the cable or rubbing the cables on ground shall be avoided and protect
the cable insulation.
 Cable laying shall be started by rotating the drum in a direction as per manufacture
recommended marked side of the cable drum and cables are pulled accordingly.
 Insulation resistance of the HV cables should be checked by using 5KV megger before
pulling and after installation of the cable. The values shall be recorded and submitted to
the client.
 The underground cable pulling, the cable trench width shall be maintaining minimum
800mm and 1000mm depth.
 Soft sand shall be spread 150mm below the cable and 100mm above the cable. Over
this a layer of 300mm clean earth soil shall be filled.
 Concrete tiles should be laid above the clean earth layer before closing the cable
trench.
 Install the cable marking tape 250mm below the finished ground level covering each
cable.
 Install the cable marker over the cable route randomly.
 Get approval from consultant before cover the cable and trench backfilled.
 All the cables shall be installed with cable identification tag.
 HV cable termination should be done as per approved specification with certified
technician under the supervision of site Engineer.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR HV CABLES OVER THE TRAY:

 The tray shall be curved enough at the right angle to allow the cable with correct
bending radius.
 Where more power cables run together, suitable cable tray shall be provided as per the
cable diameter.
 Cables shall be identified with both ends by identification tag as per approved cable
schedule.
 Cables shall be dressed properly, cable tray using tie or cleats to secure the cable
wherever the vertical cable tray fixed.
 Earth cables shall be laid parallel along with cable conductors.
 Where the cable passes through floor or fire stopping material should be provided and
the area should be sealed properly from both ends.
 On completion of cable laying, dressing, continuity and insulation resistance test shall
be carried out. The value of the insulation resistance shall be recorded and submitted to
the client.
 Cable ends shall be sealed and earthed properly.
