METHOD STATEMENT

1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE


Describing the sequence and processes to install and terminate sump pump control and HV and MV
cable replacement and rerouting at K1785-DMS waste conveying system drive house concrete
flooring.
Activities to be carried out include but not limited to:

 Working at heights
 Use of Scaffolding
 Use of hand tool
 Use of baby grinder
 Use of welding machine

Excluded are:

 Civil and Earth Works

1.1 Method Overview


The work will mainly happen on removing existing cable racks and replacing them with a new one –
strapping the cables with stainless steel cable ties, cable rack installation around the sump pump
control, installing and terminating the control panel and HV and MV cable replacement and
rerouting.

3. METHOD OF WORKING
3.1 Ensuring safety of employees
Employees must do a complete isolation and lock-out, tag and test for DEAD procedure –ensuring
zero electrical potential. Employees must not work on any live equipment.

3.2 Ensuring safety of others

A steel strapping bending tool shall be properly used and sharp edges shall at all costs be avoided.
Good housekeeping shall be ensured to avoid slipping, tripping and falling.
3.3 HV and MV and LV Cables Strapping
3.3.1 LV Cables equal to or less than 25mm²: Up to a maximum of three cables strapped
together with a Bandit strap at intervals of 3m, placing two stainless steel cable ties 1m apart in
between the Band-It straps.

3.3.2 HV and MV Cables equal to or less than 120mm²: Up to a maximum of one cables strapped
together with a Bandit strap at intervals of 3m, placing two stainless steel cable ties 1m apart in
between the Band-It straps.

3.4 Cable racking


3.4.1 PS75 300mm cable racking installation.
3.4.2 All cuts must be galvanised painted and no sharp edges are allowed.
3.4.3 Main earth from the existing rack must be linked with new cable rack 70mm BCEW main earth.
3.4.4 6mm earth bridges or links must be installed at 10m intervals.

3.5 Installation and termination of sump pump control and HV and MV cable relocate.
3.5.1 Cut and assemble sump pump control structure.
3.5.2 Fix control panel on the structure by use of M8 bolds Z washers and spring nuts.
3.5.3 Terminate both power and control LV cables in the control panel.
3.5.4 Terminate sump pump.

3.6 HV and MV cable installation and termination.


3.6.1 Trenching – 300mm wide x 100mm deep trenching to be done.
3.6.2 Bedding with soft soil.
3.6.3 Cable sleeving and marking.
3.6.4 HV and MV cable layout.
3.6.5 MV cable termination.
3.6.6 MV cable completed request for inspection.

5. Quality Control
A Quality Control Plan (also Inspection and Test Plan) is used to identify the sequence in which the
activities will be performed, and the documents required for Quality Control. It also refers to the
Project Specifications, South African National Standards and other acceptance criteria related to the
project and drawing requirements.
5.1 Standard Forms
The following Documents will be used and kept in the quality control file at the site office:

6. Safety
JRA’s, DSTI’s and SLAM’s will be conducted before the start of works to ensure that all risks are
properly controlled. Controls will be monitored by means of PTO’s and VFL’s to ensure effectiveness
of implementation. Risk assessments will be reviewed as required.

Adhere to all applicable legislation i.e. MHS Act, OHS Act, Buildings Act, KIO Specifications etc.

Supervision will ensure communication of JRA’s and implementation of controls at the work face level.
PTO’s will be conducted to measure effectiveness of controls. Correct and sufficient tools will be
made available for all works. Employees will wear the required PPE at all t
