PBL-mode/Cassette recognition

16.7 PBL mode

16.7.1 Principles of cassette recognition
* Adjustment is made only for one cassette as represen-
tative for all cassettes.
* A correction for one cassette plane (height/width) in-
fluences the same plane as a constant for all cassettes.
* For the cassette to be checked, a tolerance upper limit
and low limit (window) is specified for height and width
(following tables).
* The lower tolerance limit corresponds to the tabular va-
lue in the software table (contents guide).
* The actual values should be as close as possible to the
window center. A deviation from the window center by +9
bit is still regarded as ideal. Fluctuations are caused
by the program transit times of the counter. )
* The actual values are stated as counter readings.
* The counter readings cannot be queried here with "Count"
(PT) but only by means of 2 addresses (a counter reading
requires 2 byte = 2 addresses).
* Address (counter reading) for width: FC20 (low byte)
FC21 (high byte)
Address (counter reading) for height: FC22 (low byte)
FC23 (high byte)
* The counter readings are altered via addresses with
correction constants (following tables).
* When changing the correction constant, first of all
change the low byte. Only in the case of carry (end of
counting area: FF), change the high byte and reset the
low-byte (00).

16.7.2 Checking the cassette recognition

- Insert all cassettes of the program in turn, move them
in and call up the corresponding subdivision program
(labelled on the console). Check the console display. o
Required with "survey":
Key _ must light up.
The display must show " 1 " .
Required with "division" in accordance with the program:
The key actuated must light up. The display must indi-
cate the possible number of exposures.
Required with "division" not in accordance with the pro-
gram:
The key actuated must not light up. The display must
flash "0". Those keys must flash with which the cassette
inserted could operate (console label).

- Move table top max. footwards.
- Move grid into beam path.
- Check the position of the grid center mark in relation
to the wire-cross axis (table longitudinal direction).
Required: In register. Tolerance: +/- 2 mm

Correction:

- Reconnect P.T. to D29.X2.

S/MEM F49F 60 Low-Byte EE

Note: Decrease of contents results in displacement at

the physician's side.
Only if the deviation is more than > 5 mm:
o Press EMERGENCY STOP switch.
o Shift switch s103 and limit stop (1) by the same
amount (measured deviation) in the required direction.
o Shift grid in direction s103. In so doing:
o Check switching point of s103. The switch must operate
approx. 2 mm in front of the mechanical limit stop of
the grid follower at limit stop (1). The switch lever
must still have a slight reserve travel at the grid
limit stop.
o Start new search (system "off/on"). Check adjustment.

16.8.2 Parking position

- Move the grid into parking position. Judge the travel
behavior. Measure stopping point.
Requirement: Starting at high speed; switching down in 2
steps. Stopping point: Distance front edge of grid (phy-
sician's side) to wire cross = 215 mm (+/-2 mm). No stop
on the spotfilm device.

16.8.3 Reversing speed
- Take trial exposure with exposure time <_ 10 ms/>_ 200 ms
(recommended when using T2U screens: 73 kV, 0.9 Cu-fil-
ter; ; 4 mAs;)

- Check radiographs for any possible grid shadows.

Requirement: no grid shadows

Adjustment if grid shadows are found on the short-time

exposure radiograph:

S/MEM F49D 19 high grid speed EE

Adjustment if grid shadows are found on the long-time
exposure radiograph:
S/MEM F49E OF low grid speed EE

Note: Increasing the contents results in increased speed,

however, at the same time, shortening the time of
grid return. In the case of medium exposure times,
this may result in striae (one grid return within
the exposure time).

Grid

The cause of striation is not necessarily the wrong

grid speed. The same result is caused by too long
signal travel times (actual start of radiation only
in the slow section of the grid movement).
In the shorter-exposure time range, a too low grid
speed has the same effect as a stationary grid, if
the "low grid speed" component is predominant.

- Longitudinal carriage max. footwards

- Table top max. headwards
- Swivel angle max. headwards
- System "off".
- Shift height mask at the physician's side. In doing so,
check the following:

Requirement: The sprocket wheel should be in the center,
relative to the worm length.
The distance "a" (worm length to holding angle, motor)
should be 33 mm (-1).
Correction, distance "a":

o Loosen 2 stud bolts at (x) (physician's side).
o Rotate motor shaft until the sprocket wheel is in the
required position,
o Retighten stud bolts.
