What if… what if there were no problems… what if we lived in a world where we loved everyone?

We
know that this is not possible on earth, but are there ways to reduce problems? Many people are holding
signs and yelling to the crowd around them as they fight and argue over the lives of people with dark skin.
But do they even know what racism is? Do they understand what is at stake right now? There is only a
small group that truly understands what it is like to deal with racism.

Imagine that right now we took a survey.. How many of you have grown up in a home that both parents
were a part of? How many of you have been cut out of an activity because someone didn't see you as
¨good enough¨? How many of you have been denied service at a store or restaurant because of who you
are or what you look like? How many of you have been looked at in a demeaning way because of how
you look or how your culture is? None of us can comprehend or imagine discrimination on this level.

Although these are very explicit problems in society, racism lies at a much deeper and fuller level. Racism
is truly a problem, but can be fixed by teaching the younger generations what is right, and by taking
responsibility for your own actions, thoughts, and beliefs.

Racism is a problem we have been dealing with for centuries. In our nation it started with slavery,
bringing people from Africa to America to work on plantaions without pay. After freeing the slaves there
was a period of segregation, which was what seemed the most intense racism, where the whites and
blacks couldn’t even use the same bathrooms. Racism as severe as segregation is not found in today’s
society, yet racism is still prevalent. Although racism is often directed towards African Americans, this is
not the only way that we see racism today. There are many other races that are discriminated against
because we have been influenced and taught to think certain things towards one that is different from us.
This is a problem because of our calling to love and serve those around us. We can’t do that if we are
discriminating or hating.

There is a problem with our society. There is a problem in our nation. There is a problem in each
individual. If you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

As children, we are already formulating our own views and perspective on life. Very small childrens
opinions probably range from what kind of mac and cheese they like to eat. I was walking through the
store the other day and a kid, probably 4 years old, was walking next to his mom. An old man was
walking closer and closer finally the kid put out his hand and said “Stop, social distancing.” There is not a
very big chance that he actually knew or comprehended what that means, but yet he knew to say it
because I am sure his parents have said it many times. But as we get older, and our parents and mentors
teach us things, our opinions get more and more serious. For kids like us, our parents plant an idea in our
head about the election or how coronavirus will be healed, and we tend to go with it. So the conclusion is
that we are influenced by those we are surrounded with, especially those in authority.

To get to the root of a problem we have to go back to where we have been taught. We as growing young
people and future leaders of government, schools, and churches must teach the next generation that it is
not okay to be racist. We have to show them love and kindness towards all so they are led by example.
Educate the youth.

But that is not all we can do, because there is still a problem in the adults of our nation. How can we fix
that? As people of America we must take responsibility for our own actions and our own perspective. We
must realize that we all make mistakes, and that we all sin, and sometimes we may even treat others with
disrespect. But the difference between those who will be the issue and those who will be the change are
those who will be responsible for all the mistakes they made and will take ownership of their views.
Taking responsibility is like taking a step above everyone else. And if we would all be able to take that
step we would have a very different nation than what we have today.

There are big problems in society, racism being just one. But there are ways and solutions to fix it such as
educating the youth and taking accountability of actions and thoughts. Be a part of the solution, be
educated, do what is right, and love.
