Learning strategies for moving from 82 to Cl: Reading

While reading, you absorb words, collocations, and sentences naturally just like in your native language. Reading
practice outside the classroom should focus on both extensive reading for pleasure such as novels and intensive
reading for detailed understanding.

Reading a popular teenage novel can help you achieve fluency faster. It's a fun and relaxing experience. It's a great
way to expand your vocabulary knowledge and general understanding and get exposure to authentic language
without memorization. Keep a notebook at hand to write down some new interesting vocabulary, discover the
meaning from context and check in the dictionary if necessary.

You can also find lots of short stories, fact files and articles on line. Many websites offer graded reading materials
with a reading comprehension quiz www.classicsh orts.com/

Want to read about the daily life of teenagers around the globe? Follow a blog for teenagers about lifestyle or fashion
such as Hideawaygirl for girls and WeTheUrban for boys.

You will come across quite long texts, so you need to time your reading. If you want to increase your reading speed,
you can learn speed reading on breakingnewsenglish.com/speed_reading.html

Read the local or international newspapers on line. Start with the Peruvian Times or Santiago Times and then
challenge yourself with newspapers such as The New York Times Learning Blog and The New Yorker.

3 List the main advantages and disadvantages of
telecommuting mentioned in the essay.

Telecommuting
Telecommuting, or working from home, is a growing trend nowadays. It is likely to become more
popular in the future, bringing changes in work and family life.
The main advantage of telecommuting is that it saves time and money for workers. The time that
workers currently spend commuting is reduced or completely cut as they make fewer trips to and from
the office. As a result, workers have more time and energy for work. Furthermore, telecommuting
saves people money as they spend less on transportation, gasoline and parking. This also benefits
the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. An additional advantage for workers is that
they have a better balance between work and home life. They can spend more time with their families
because they can arrange their work around other commitments, such as taking children to school.
While the idea of more time at home and less time traveling to and from work is attractive, there are
some drawbacks to telecommuting. In the first place, people may feel unable to escape their work
and may even work longer or more unsocial hours. In addition, the quality of work may suffer
because of the reduced face-to-face interaction with other employees. Finally, there is the possibility
that managers feel they have less control over what workers are doing.
In my opinion, the trend towards more flexible ways of working can only be a good thing. It may
take a while to adapt to a new system, but overall the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

This book is definitely not worth the money. After a couple of days of taking it out of my pocket. some of the pages even started falling out.
I don't think that's what they meant by 'pull-out'! It was really annoying turning to the page we needed, only to find that it wasn't there.
To be fair, the book packs a punch with the amount of information you get. But then, so do quite a few of the other guidebooks out there.
If I were you, I'd choose one of the others that doesn't fall apart when you open it.

My boyfriend and I went to Istanbul to celebrate our engagement last month. We needed it to be cheap and cheerful, and this book really
helped us to do that. It doesn't just point you to the touristy places that cost a fortune. It also tells you about places that are off the typical
tourist trail, where you can see a slice of more authentic Turkish life - this was exactly what we were looking for. It also has a detailed
guide on where to dine if it's local cuisine you're after.
There are dozens of wa lks, clearly described and mapped, that take you all around the ancient parts of the city, including the 6.5 km city
wall walk from the Marble Tower to the Golden Horn. The book spells out all the things you can enjoy that won't cost you a cent - walking
through the ancient Spice Bazaar, for example, was such a treat for all the senses. A fully comprehensive list of Istanbul's many religious
sites tells you which you can visit for free.
We only scratched the surface of this amazing city in a long weekend. Next time we go, we'll be married - and we'll be taking our trusty
guidebook with us again.

Reviewer: Toby Date: 6 May

I've tried quite a few of the different guidebook series out there, but I have to say, I think this series has the edge. I'd already used the
So You Want to See? guides to Madrid, Prague and Berlin, so I knew what to expect- and Istanbul was no exception. These guides have
always proven to be the most trustworthy - and the most facts for your cash.
Comprehensive, while also a bit quirky and witty- it's right up my street. You don't waste money on loads of fancy features like 3D
illustrations and large glossy photos. You just get to spend a bit more money on going there yourself, seeing the things with your own eyes
and taking your own pictures!
There's not much more you can say about a guidebook, real ly- it does what it says on the cover. But I'll definitely go back to this series
when I need another city guide. Where to next? St Petersburg, maybe - or perhaps I'll head to Warsaw!
