Amit Pagnis steps down as Mumbai coach after SMA exit

Coach Amit Pagnis has stepped down as coach of the Mumbai team following the team's
disastrous show in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which saw them crash out in the
league stage after losing four games on the trot and winning just one.

"Yes, I am stepping down as the Mumbai coach due to our poor performance in the Mushtaq
Ali T20 Trophy. I take responsibility for this. However, it must be kept in mind that lack of
preparation was a huge setback to us. We barely got any time to prepare and practice
together as a team," Pagnis told TOI. "I have always enjoyed working for the MCA and wish
Mumbai luck for future tournaments," he added.

Pagnis's short tenure has thus lasted just around a month. Led by former India opener
Lalchand Rajput, MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) will now have to quickly
appoint a new coach for the next domestic tournament of the severely curtailed 2020-21
season - which could either be the Ranji Trophy or the Vijay Hazare One-Day Trophy.
