1988 The last time Australia lost a Test at the Gabba - against West Indies. In the period
since, Australia played 31 Tests, winning 24 and drawing seven before this loss. The only
other side to remain unbeaten in more successive Tests at a venue is Pakistan at the
National Stadium in Karachi between 1955 and 2000. It is also the first time Australia have
lost at the Gabba after taking the first innings lead.
15 Test matches played by Asian sides at the Gabba before this Test - losing 12 and
drawing three. India became the first Asian side to win at the Gabba. In 2007/08, India
became the first and only Asian team till date to defeat Australia at the WACA. With Gabba
fortress breached, Edgbaston remains the venue where Asian sides haven't won a Test yet
(17 Tests).
328 The third highest target successfully chased down by India in the fourth innings of a
Test. It is also the third highest successful chase against Australia in Australia after 414 by
South Africa in 2008/09 and 332 by England in 1928/29.
2 Instances of a team scoring more runs on the fifth day of a Test than 325 scored by India
today. The two other instances were Don Bradman's Invincibles' 404 against England at
Leeds in 1948 and Clive Lloyd's all conquering side hit 344 against England at Lord's in
1984 in the middle of their run of 11 consecutive wins.
5 This was the fifth time India came back to win a series after losing the first Test of the
rubber and the second time they did so away from home after winning 2-1 in Sri Lanka in
2015. The last visiting team to come back from 0-1 to win the series in Australia was West
Indies in 1992/93.
6 Cheteshwar Pujara became the first Indian batsman to survive 200+ balls in an innings six
times in Australia surpassing five instances each by Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli. Three of
his four slowest half centuries came in this series including the slowest in the fourth innings
at the Gabba, off 196 balls.
89* by Rishabh Pant is the third highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in the fourth
innings of a Test. The two higher scores also belong to him - 114 at the Oval in 2018 and 97
at SCG in the previous Test. Pant averages 87 in fourth innings compared to 35.23 in other
innings of a Test.
3 Pat Cummins, Player of the Series, picked 21 wickets across four Tests without a
five-wicket haul (best of 4/21). This was the third time he has picked 20-plus scalps without a
five-fer in a series following 23 against England at home in 2017/18 (best of 4/39) and 29 in
England in 2019 (best of 4/32). Only other bowlers to do so thrice are Joel Garner and
Malcolm Marshall.
