Final Examination Instructions


Virtual Examination Join your usual lecture Zoom link at your usual lecture time to enter the
Room: Virtual Examination Room.

Pre-examination identity Your pre-exam identity check will commence at 1.30pm on Thursday
check: 12 November 2020. You will be asked to show your CIM student ID
card and turn your video on to confirm your identify.

Examination paper: A link to the examination paper will be uploaded on the day of the
exam.

Examination start time: Thursday 12 November 2020 at 2.15pm AEST

Examination end time: Thursday 12 November 2020 at 4.25pm AEST


Submissions uploaded after this time will receive a grade of zero.

Academic Honesty A link to the Academic Honesty Declaration will be uploaded here on
Declaration the day of the exam. You must complete the Academic Honesty
Declaration before you submit your exam paper.

Turnitin submission A link to the Turnitin submission drop box will be uploaded here on the
drop box: day of the exam.

Assistance during the If you require any assistance during the examination, please message

the chat box in the Virtual Examination Room.

Post-examination When you finish your examination, send a private message addressed to

You should connect to the Virtual Examination Room at the time specified above. You must remain
connected to the Virtual Examination Room for the duration of the examination. You must keep
your camera turned on and pointed at your face throughout the examination and while you
upload to the Turnitin drop box your completed paper. The feed from your camera will be
recorded by the Institute. This is so that the examination invigilators can confirm that you have not
collaborated with others during the examination. You must not mute your microphone or cover or
disconnect your camera during the examination unless otherwise instructed by the invigilator. Doing
so will be regarded as an act of academic dishonesty.

Pre-examination identity check

Prior to starting the examination, you must confirm your identity at the Zoom link specified above.  
You must activate your camera and microphone and state your full name and student number. A staff
member will verify your identity and advise whether you may proceed to undertake the examination.
You must not view the examination paper or start the examination until your identity has been
verified. Students who undertake the examination without completing their pre-examination
identity check will receive a grade of zero.

You should present for your pre-examination identity check at the time specified above, so that you
have sufficient time to record your attendance and confirm your identity prior to the commencement
of the examination.  If you do not allow sufficient time for the pre-examination identity check, you
will have less time to complete the examination.

Assistance during the examination

If you require any assistance during the examination, please message the invigilator via private
message addressed to ‘invigilator’ through the chat box in the Virtual Examination Room. Do not
email or message your lecturer or tutor or classmates. Do not attempt to speak with the invigilator or
any other person via the audio feed during the examination. This will disturb other students and will
be regarded as an act of academic dishonesty.

Viewing the examination paper

You will be able to view the examination paper from the examination start time via the link specified
above.

Uploading your completed examination

You must complete your Academic Honesty Declaration via the link specified above and then upload
your completed examination paper to the Turnitin submission drop box listed above before the end of
the examination. Papers uploaded after 4.25pm EST on Thursday 12 November 2020 will not be

marked, and you will receive a grade of zero for the examination.

Technological problems

If you experience technological problems during the examination, inform the examination invigilator
by sending a private chat message to ‘invigilator’ via the Virtual Examination Room (if possible). If
you are unable to do this, please telephone CIM Reception on +612 8007 5846.

Finishing your examination

When you finish your examination, send a private message to the invigilator and you will be
instructed to hold your student ID card up to the camera to conclude your examination.

Post-examination defence

The Institute reserves the right to require you to participate in an in-person (or Zoom-based) post-
examination defence, either immediately after the examination or at a later date, at the discretion of
the Program Director. This is an additional academic honesty measure.

If you are required to participate in a post-examination defence, you will be notified either at the
conclusion of your post-submission identity check, or within 2 weeks of the date of the examination.

Whether examination is ‘open book’

This examination is ‘open book,’ which means that you can refer to your textbook, lecture notes or
lecture slides while you are doing the examination, however, you must not use the internet to
‘Google’ answers, and you must not collaborate with anyone else, including other students in
this course. This or similar conduct amounts to academic dishonesty. The Institute does not
tolerate academic dishonesty. Penalties for academic dishonesty may include expulsion from
the course or from your degree program.

Required technological equipment

You are required to have access to a computer with a stable internet connection for the duration of the
examination. You must not attempt to complete the examination on a mobile phone or tablet. If
you do not have access to a computer or a stable internet connection, please email the academic
manager by 7 November 2020 at academic@ciom.edu.au to make arrangements to undertake
