Job production involves customizing an individual product from start to finish. This needs highly
skill workers and takes a lot of time.
Batch production is when products are manufactured identically, whereas job production serves
each customer differently with their choices. It is unique.
Economies of scale can be enjoyed for batch production, same machinery can be used for
manufacturing the products. Few economies of scale can be enjoyed because each product is going
to be unique.
6. What is flow production and how does it differ from mass production?
Flow production focuses on a continuous production process of manufacturing products that are
standardized in large quantity.
In mass production, the machinery produces a standard product, whereas for flow production the
entire plant is dedicated for one a specific product.
7. What are the advantages and disadvantages of mass and flow production methods?

Cellular manufacturing helps reduce waste by reducing defects that result from processing. It is easy
to spot and replace defects.
Capital intensive production requires more equipment and machinery to produce goods, it requires
of money for investment. Labour intensive refers to production that requires a higher labour input
to carry out production activities in comparison to the amount of capital required.
10. Why do many businesses choose to use a combination of various methods of production?
It depends on the company, what they are producing and they think has the most advantage. The
choice of production method will also affect other aspects of operations management, such as stock
control systems and quality control.
