Semi Automatic Opening (SAO)

Overview
Using Semi Automatic Opening, SAP can open and use service connections to your systems without
interaction of a contact person at customer side. Semi Automatic Opening provides following
advantages:
• SAP can access a system at customer side faster and even in times (e.g. night times or
weekends) when it is difficult to reach contact persons at customer side or in case of serious
problems
• Communication costs can be reduced (e.g. when using an ISDN connection) as the network
connection is only opened for the time needed
• Customers can allow Semi Automatic Opening on system level for each system
• Every time a service connection is opened, you are informed via email and the action is stored
in the log book.

How does Semi Automatic Opening work?

To use Semi Automatic Opening you need the Line Opener Program (LOP) on one of your PCs or
Servers.
LOP checks periodically per https-request in SAP Service Marketplace whether an opening request for
one of your systems exists. If such a request exists, the LOP opens the connection between your
SAProuter and SAP.
An e-mail notification will inform you, that a network connection was opened. Usages of Semi
Automatic Opening can be granted per system.

How to set up Semi Automatic Opening

System Configuration notice

SAP has discovered that some users have problems with the Line Opener Program using a PC
which is running Windows XP Professional SP1 (Service Pack 1). SAP therefore recommends
installing Service Pack 2 before installing the Line Opener Program.
To set up Semi Automatic Opening execute following steps:

1. Install the Line Opener Program (LOP) on one of your PCs /Server
Please consider the following requirements for the computer where the LOP program is installed:
• The computer has to be connected to the Internet
• The computer must access the SAProuter by using the internal network
• SAP GUI has to be installed on the computer
• The LOP program can only be installed on the Microsoft Windows platform (2000, XP or
higher)
To install, select Install at the LOP page, then download and start it from your PC.

2. Start the Line Opener Program (LOP) initially

You are asked for a name and a location for the LOP. The name is used to identify the LOP. The
location field has only informational purpose. In case of more than one LOPs it should ease the
localisation of a LOP in your infrastructure. After the information is entered the LOP runs.

Result: LOP connects to SAP Service Marketplace and registers.

3. Configuration of Semi Automatic Opening (SAO)
You now can configure Semi Automatic Opening per system. Please open a browser and connect
to SAP Support Portal at http://service.sap.com/access-support. Select a system for which you
want to allow SAO.

Choose Semi Automatic Opening

Choose the registered Line Opener Program (LOP)

Configure Semi Automatic Opening Data by

• defining the duration how long the connection will be opened and is valid
• entering the contact person for the system. This person will get the e-mail confirmation when
the system is opened by the Semi Automatic Opening
• entering a router string to reach the SAProuter.

To open the network connection to SAP, the LOP needs to know the route (in the internal network)
from the PC / Server via your SAProuter to the SAProuter to SAP (sapservX).
The syntax of the route string is: “/H/<SAProuter>/S/<port_SAProuter>.

Example: “/H/10.11.12.13/S/3299”

Automatic Opening
