REACTION PAPER

Turning Massive Challenges Into Meaningful Change

The old joke has it that nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. As the unrelenting COVID-

19 pandemic rolls on, the future isn’t what it used to be, either. What used to be a simple idea

now comes freighted with caveats, assumptions, and speculations. Where we are, and where

we might be heading. COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly around the world. The

pandemic has had far-reaching consequences beyond the spread of the disease itself and

efforts to quarantine it. Now, COVID-19 is pushing companies to rapidly operate in new

ways.

ORIX METRO FINANCE AND LEASING CORPORATION, located at Nuesa,

Roxas Isabela is not an exemption to this problem. According to Ms. Rosemarie A. Delos

Santos, a project accountant of the company, getting affected by this problem emotionally

and mentally will surely affect the immune system, the way we think, the way we eat and our

behavior will surely change with that. We need to merely accept the fact that we can’t see the

enemy here and all we need to do is boost our immune system and boost our mind. Personally

Ms. Delos Santos used the emotionally based coping which is controlling the mind and

emotion trough positivity to cope up with the pandemic. I agree with that having a sense of

positivity can lead you to a better adaptation of the new changes. All businesses struggling

with their collection and income. LEASING AND FINANCE CORPORATION which is a

financial service was struggling with their collections. A lot of clients were not paying their

monthly amortizations. I can say that it was a great stress for the company because
collections are the income of the company. It is the lifeblood of the company so if it is we’re

out of collection the income will surely decreases.

March 17 was the start of ECQ and it was another set up to cope up with. Ms. Delos

Santos says she doesn’t exactly know how to cope up with it. She just adjust and accept the

new normal. That’s what we really need right now adjustment and acceptance for the new set

up because it’s for our safety after all. She was a one of the essential workforce in the

company. Being in accounting department you have to meet your reports monthly and weekly

and it cannot be delayed so she was required to always go to the office. There is a differences

in sales they normally gain since the outbreak of the pandemic. They usually control and cut

expenses that can be controlled like the electricity bill, water bill, phone calls and pantry

supplies. They control these expenses because they can’t generate income like it used to be.

They can’t book client because some of them are not qualified enough to avail other accounts

because they pass on due. However, they are protecting their clients who are currently paying

amortizations without availing or lapsing the skip payment program. These days it’s hard to

market clients and to book new clients because of the safety protocols and going out is being

limited. Visiting a client was hard and can only talk with them through phone calls.

With amidst to the COVID -19 pandemic the company has to adopt new strategies.

For the clients who are currently paying amortizations, they are offering clean loans with no

collateral to help them during this pandemic even though they not really affected. For those

clients who are in the industry that are really affected by this pandemic, they are suggesting

them to avail moratorium as of September so that they will be considered as current accounts.

They can avail another availment and for the company to have a booking. “Our income was

decreasing since March and we need to generate atleast. It is better to have a low income than

to incur loss”- Ms. Rosemarie Delos Santos. As businesses juggle a range of new systems

priorities and challenges― business continuity risks, sudden changes in volume, real-time

decision-making, workforce productivity, security risks―leaders must act quickly to address

immediate systems resilience issues and lay a strong foundation. Businesses must navigate

the financial and operational challenges of coronavirus while rapidly addressing the needs of

their people, customers and suppliers. Company’s must continuously to adapt new and

uncertain market conditions.
