Mean, median and mode for grouped data

x́=
∑ fx
∑f
Where x́ = mean, x = midpoint, f = frequency
Finding the modal class. ( In grouped data, mode is called as modal class)

Answer:

Modal class = 7 – 9

Notes: modal class is not the frequency. Modal class is the class which having the highest frequency

For odd data:

Total of frequency = 2+7+ 8+4=21

median = data at the ¿ position

= 11th position

= 61 – 65 class

61+ 65
After know the median class, get the midpoint from the class by
2

= 63 seconds
For even data:

Total frequency = 50 (even data )

Median = average data at ¿ position

= average data at ¿ and ¿ position

= average data at 25th and 26th position

25th+26 th
= data
2

= both 25th and 26th is situated at 170 – 174 length

= midpoint of 170 – 174 length

170+174 170+ 174

=( + )÷ 2
2 2

=( 172 + 172 )÷2

= 172 mm
