Deep Connection and Fascination with the Plant World

Description of the Booth

The Biotechnology booth documents the worlds FLORA and provides a constant and permanent
record of BOTANICAL DIVERSITY through HERBARIA PREPARATION. The booth highlights 56 species of
different plants collected by Grade 8 Aristotle and Mendel students. Each species were carefully dried
using a plant press, mounted on a sheets of paper and labelled to shows plants morphology, taxonomic
and locality information as basis for research on the taxonomy, ecology and geography of PHILIPPINE
PLANTS.

Science Concept embedded in the booth

Herbarium is a collection of preserved plant specimens and associated data for scientific study.
This technology offers three main services such as; the TAXONOMIC IDENTIFICATION of specimens
which can be used as basis for research and preparation of floras. PRESERVATION of specimen which
have been examined for chromosome number and chemical constituents so that future workers can
check the authenticity of the material. VALIDATION of SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATIONS which allows anyone
to go back and check the identification of their collection by comparing with already identified
herbarium experiments
