and Probability

Q1. An office building has 27 floors and has 37 offices on each floor. How many offices are there in
total?
Q2. There are six different airlines that fly from New York to Denver and seven that fly from Denver
to San Francisco. How many different possibilities are there for a trip from New York to San
Francisco via Denver?

Q3.Evaluate the following:

Q4.A bag contains 6 white marbles and 5red marbles. Find the number of ways four marbles
can be drawn from the bag if
(a) They can be of any color;
(b) Two must be white and two red;
(c) They must be of same colored

Q5. A committee of 5 is to be formed out of 5 Professors,7 lecturers and 8 Assistant


Professor so that
a) The committee has 2 Professors,2 Lecturers and 1 Assistant Professor
b) The committee should have 3 professors and 2 lecturers. Further; it should have a
particular Professor and a particular Lecturer always in that committee
c) The committee should have 3 professors and 2 lecturers. Further; it should never have a
particular Professor and a particular Lecturer always in that committee

Q6. (i) Tickets numbered 1 to 20 are mixed up and then a ticket is drawn. What is the
probability that a ticket has a number which is a multiple of 3 or 7.
(ii) Tickets numbered 1 to 24 are mixed. A ticket is drawn at random what is the probability
that it is divisible by 3 or 7.

Q7.In a certain group of 400 people, 40% are men and 60% women. Of the men, 5% are
colour blind and of the women, 10% are colour blind. Find the prob. that a person selected is:

(a) a colour blind man (b) a colour blind person

Q8. 3 persons A, B, C shoot to hit a target. If A hits the target 4 times in 5 trials and B hits it
3 times in 4 trials & C hits it 2 times in 3 trials. Find the prob. that
(a) exactly 2 hit that target
(b) at least 2 hit the target
(c) none hits the target.
