Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to guess the meaning of at least 2 unfamiliar words in the song based on

topic knowledge.

C By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to listen to the song and identify a word with the sound /eə/.
1. Introduce and review food vocabulary by displaying food flashcards on the board.
Pre-lesson 2. Draw a food tree map on the board and show how to complete it.
3. Hand out worksheet and ask pupils to work in groups to complete the tree map.
4. Activity 1:
a. Introduce the vocabulary at the top of the page. (SB pg 49)
b. Play CD track 70 and have pupils point and repeat.
c. Say the words again in random order and have pupils repeat and point.
5. Activity 2:
a. Ask pupils to close their books and listen to the song (Track 71).
b. Ask pupils to highlight words they don’t know in the text (e.g. yummy, market), or direct them to these
words.
c. Get them to guess the meaning of these words based on the topic knowledge.
d. Provide pupils with various possible definitions for these words and ask them to think about the topic to

6. Activity 3:
a. Play the song once and have pupils listen. (track 71)
b. Play the song a second time, and have pupils find a word with the sound /eə/ in the song [pear].
c. Play CD 3 track 5 and have pupils listen and point the first time. (SB pg 120/TB pg 175)
d. Ask pupils to brainstorm more words with each of the three sounds. (Assessment)
e. Pupils could work in groups on one sound each group.
f. Groups present their work.
7. Activity 4:
a. If you have time, assign a food in the song to each pupil and ask them to draw it.
b. Play the song and have pupils hold up their drawings as they sing along. (TPR Activity TB pg 78)
8. Organise pupils into groups and distribute a set of sound cards to each group.
Post lesson 9. Call out one of the words from Activity 3 and have pupils put up the corresponding sound cards.
10. Repeat steps with other words.
