Kate and Mike Sullivan live in S…………………………. with their parents and their dog,

The story begins on a sunny Monday morning early in J . Julie Bernett, Kate’s best
friend, knocks on the door. The weather report on the TV says it’s foggy in Bodega Bay. They
remember their adventure there ………….. months ago. Kate tells Julie about it.

They went to the Farallon Islands on their dad’s new boat, The Pelican. The first night Kate saw the
…………….. of a boy. Then their parents heard a ship’s ………….. They thought someone needed
help so they took the l…………………… .The next morning they were w……………….. because
they couldn’t find their parents so they took a boat and saw a strange old s……………… , The
Sonora. It was an old Spanish p………………… ship that was lost at sea in 1608. The ship’s crew
were all …………………. The ghost of Captain Salamanca wanted to kill them. Suddenly Lucky
jumped on the table and a big c…………… fell and a fire started. They could leave the ship and

2. On Friday Kate was nervous because she had new …………………, but everyone liked them and
she was happy. At dinner, Mr. Sullivan told his family about his trip to the Farallon Islands to study
the great white s…………… He decides to take all her family to Bodega Bay during the summer
vacation on the Pelican. They also invite Carlos, Mike’s friend. He is Hispano- American and he can
speak English and S…………. Kate, Mike and Carlos are very e…………….. because they want to
look for the pirate t…………….

3.Mike’s science class went to Muir Woods National Park with Miss Williamson, their favorite
teacher. It was their last day of school and Mr Sullivan told his family more about the trip. Mike took

Carlos helped with the Spanish words. Captain Salamanca’s ship was destroyed in November 1608.
The Hacienda means a big r………….. and Estrada was probably the name of the family who

4. The Pelican left Marina H……………. in San Francisco on a f………… Wednesday morning. In
the afternoon they got to Bodega Bay and moored the boat at the small p………….. While their
parents were working, they could look for the t………………. They followed a p………….. into
the h…………… and spent the afternoon looking for the water well, but they found n………………
They went back for d………………. The next morning Kate, Mike , Carlos and Lucky went to
Doran Beach. Carlos saw a small opening in a cliff. They had a f………………. and they went

the old lock with a big stone.

5. Mikes is going to open the treasure map because he found the map on the ghost s……………. .
Inside the chest there was a s………….. wearing pirate’s clothes and a big black

Robles”. Lucky started barking, a lot of water was coming into the cave because it was high
t………….. Carlos and Mike lifted Kate and Lucky, then she pushed Lucky through the h…………
in the cave. When Lucky got out of the hole, he started barking loudly .Four friends who were on the
beach followed Lucky to the small hole and looked inside. One of the young men had a r………… in
his car and they helped them get out of the cave.

6. Mike, Kate and Carlos got back to The Pelican at d………… time. The next morning they went to
the tourist office to ask about the “Hacienda”. Margaret Healy, who worked at the Bodega Bay
tourist Office, knew all about the history of the town. “The Estrada family was a rich and important
family in the 1600s, they built a big farm , The Hacienda Estrada, The family’s only daughter was
called Isabella and she married a sea captain Juan Martinez. He was killed during a terrible fight with
pirates”.

Margaret didn’t know where Juan Martinez was buried. Then, the three friends decided to follow the
treasure m………. They climbed up the h……… and stopped near a stone w…………. It was part of
the old Hacienda Estrada. They saw the cemetery.

7. When they got to the old l…………………… at Twin Oak Point, Carlos remembered that the
word Robles meant oak in Spanish. They looked under the o………….. trees and found a
t…………………. . It was difficult to read but it said “Juan Martinez, 15070- 1605” In the evening
they told their parents the whole story. They were not angry and decided to help them. Dad had two
s…………… on the boat. The next day they returned to the oak trees with Mr And Mrs Sullivan.
They dug under the t……………….. and found the pirate treasure.It was full of gold and silver
c………., jewelry, pearls and a king’s c………………..

Mr Sullivan called the California Archeological Society because the t……………. belonged to the
state of California. Archeologists will study the treasure and then they will probably take it to a
