Instructions. Carefully analyze and compare the cases of Tiziana Cantone and Lizzie Velasquez. Then, answer the
following questions and be prepared to share your opinions during the roundtable.

1. After reading Tiziana’s Case.

1.1 Italian Prime Minister said there was not anything the government could do to remedy Cantone’s situation,
because “It’s mainly a cultural battle.” Do you agree with this position? What is the government
responsibility to protect citizens and prevent cases like Tiziana’s?

1.2 There is certainly a cultural phenomenon tied to Tiziana’s case. Millions of people watched the video and
replicated it online, but also millions of them condemned Tiziana to public humiliation. How would you
explain such behavior? Do you think people would have reacted different had Tiziana been a man?

1.3 Tiziana fought in court for “the right to be forgotten”, which means the right to have any negative
information from your past removed from the internet. However, some lawyers argue that this goes against
society’s right to be informed and that criminals and corrupt politicians could take advantage of such laws
to hide their past crimes. What is your position on “the right to be forgotten”?

1.4 Social networks and the internet played a part in Tiziana’s case. Cyberbullying is taking on new forms, is
becoming more common, and is increasing in its severity. What would you recommend to someone who is
experiencing a situation like Cantone’s? What can be done in schools and homes to prevent this type of
situations?
2. After watching Lizzy’s case and comparing both cases.
2.1 Why cyber bullying can be more hurtful than regular bullying?

2.2 How can cyber bullying be prevented?

2.3 How are Tiziana’s and Lizzy’s cases similar? How are they different?

2.4 Why do you think Lizzy survived cyber bulling and Tiziana didn’t?

2.5 What important lesson did you learn from these two cases?

2.6 What contribution can you make from your profession to prevent or help resolve this type of cases?
