PROPOSED ACTION PLAN TO ADDRESS ISSUES AND CONCERNS IN SCIENCE

EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION:

An action plan is a written document that describes the steps that supervisors,

trainers, learners and co-workers will complete to help maximize the transfer of learning. It is

initiated prior to the training intervention so that everyone who can support the transfer of

learning is involved from the beginning. The plan is refined during the training event and usually

is not completed until after the event when learners are implementing new skills on the job. As

you will see, action plans are a recurring topic throughout this guide. The content and layout of

an action plan should support the users of the plan, especially the learners.

Action plans help people know what needs to be done to complete a task, project,

initiative or strategy. An action plan generally includes steps, milestone, and measures of

progress, as well as responsibilities, specific assignment, and a time line.

The rapid advancement of science and technology does a lot of concerns in the science

education most especially in the third world or developing countries like Philippines. Being able

to go with the motion of advancement, it is not just acquiring the advance facilities and

technologies but also educators have to inquire and enhance their knowledge and essential skills

in meeting up the demand of the highly competitive and scientifically-inclined society

RATIONALE:
Science Education intends to demonstrate through the proposed Action Plan to address

issues and concerns in the field, a renewal of its commitment to improve student engagement in

science and support professional learning for teachers.

The development of increasingly scientifically literate individuals is one of the

primary focusses of a 21st century approach to K-12 science education. A scientifically literate

individual can more effectively interpret information, solve problems, make informed decisions,

accommodate change, and create new knowledge. Science Education is responding to the

challenge by providing all students with high quality science teaching and learning that supports

and promotes this vision for scientific literacy.

Science Education recognizes that teachers greatly influence the learning of their

students, and that professional development opportunities are instrumental in implementing

teaching practices that favor student engagement and success. Science Education continue to

work with stakeholders to improve learning opportunities in science for educators, which is why

a major focus of the Action Plan is supporting educators and fostering partnerships.

Engaging students in science will increase the likelihood of them enrolling in science

courses at the high school level. With improved engagement comes improved learning, and with

improved learning comes improved self-esteem and commitment to school and community. This

is why the second major focus of the Action Plan is engaging students and encouraging academic

success. (https://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/science/action_plan/rationale.html)
