Student Biography

Student Pseudonym: Anna

Grade Level: 8th grade

Personal:

Anna is a 13 year old female who is in 8th grade. This student is very friendly and a joy

to work with. She gets along well with her peers and teachers, and she is always very respectful

towards others. Anna has many friends who she interacts with in class. Outside of school, Anna

likes to hang out with her friends and go to the mall. Based on the Interest Inventory, Anna has

many interests and hobbies. For example, she enjoys playing volleyball, making art, and playing

board games for fun. At home, Anna has an older sister along with two pets, a dog and a cat. She

enjoys taking her dog for walks in her free time. According to the Interest Inventory, Anna

enjoys spending time with her family. She likes to go out to eat or play basketball with her older

sister. In addition, Anna helps out around the house by taking out the garbage or helping her

mom with chores. A more detailed description of the results of the Interest Inventory is included

in the Inventories and Assessments section.

School:

Anna is currently an 8th grade student receiving supplemental learning support services

due to her Specific Learning Disability in Reading Comprehension, Basic Math, Written

Expression, and Listening Comprehension. This student participates in the general education

curriculum with modifications and adaptations. In addition, she has one intervention period each

day in the learning support classroom where she receives extra support from the learning support

teacher. According to her teachers, Anna is a great student. She is a very hard working student,

and always attempts to complete all of her school work. Additionally, Anna is very kind and

respectful, and exhibits no behavior concerns in the classroom. Based on her IEP assessments,

Anna achieves passing grades in all of her classes, and maintains mostly A’s and B’s. Some of

Anna’s strengths in school are that she is respectful and helpful, she consistently completes her

homework and classwork, and she is a hard worker. However, Anna has weaknesses in the areas

of reading comprehension, basic math, written expression, and listening comprehension. Anna

has expressed in her responses on the inventories and assessments that she enjoys school, and her

favorite subject is reading. Overall, Anna appears to be a very hardworking and respectful

student.

Reading:

Based on her responses to the inventories and assessments, Anna has a very positive

attitude toward reading. She has expressed that her favorite subject in school is reading. In

addition to reading in school, Anna also enjoys reading for fun. More specifically, this student

enjoys reading graphic novels, such as The Baby Sitters Club by Raina Telgemeier and Ann M.

Martin, as well as Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova. Through my observations and interactions

with this student, she has demonstrated her joy and excitement towards reading. For instance,

during free time in class, she would frequently read a book from the classroom library or read a

book on Epic or Libby. In addition, Anna was always willing to participate in my reading

interventions and demonstrated a positive attitude while reading. Overall, this student seems to

enjoy reading and have a positive attitude towards reading.
