RPL is a formal process that recognises skills developed through previous training, work or life experience,
which match a unit of competency in a training course. If you believe you already have the skills covered in this
unit of competency, discuss this with your trainer, who will provide you with instructions for applying for RPL.

National Recognition / Credit Transfer

Qualifications or statements of attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations are recognised by
the College. Where this unit of competency is equivalent to a unit of competency previously completed with
another provider, credit transfer will be offered and the course length adjusted accordingly. It is the
responsibility of the student to provide the relevant evidence of qualifications or statements of attainment issued
by other Registered Training Organisations, which will be verified by the College prior to credit transfer being
applied.

Support Services
Your trainer/assessor is able to clarify any aspect of an assessment task prior to it being administered. This
may include clarifying: knowledge and skills covered during the training program; the meaning of written
assessment questions; performance standards for practical assessments; and marking criteria.
Once the assessment process has commenced however, the assessor is not able to provide any intervention
or guidance, unless it is to prevent an unsafe act from being performed.
Please ask for help when you need it, as your trainer/assessor may not be aware that you have not understood
aspects of the training program, or are not feeling confident enough to engage in assessment activities.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is using the words or ideas of others and presenting them as your own. Plagiarism is a type of
intellectual theft. It can take many forms, from deliberate cheating to accidentally copying from a source without
acknowledgement. In your assessments you must come up with your own ideas, however, at times you may
need to make reference to work that has been conducted by others. Important points to be aware of:

 Know what plagiarism is – refer to http://www.plagiarism.org/ for more information

 Reference your work / acknowledge all of your sources

“All of the following are considered plagiarism:

 turning in someone else's work as your own

 copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit

 giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
 changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit

give credit or not...”

c) How will you recruit and induct the people who are going to run the booth? What do these people need to
be aware of when working in the booth?

d) Describe the contingency plans you will need to have in place at this event.

You call a meeting the week before the first sausage sizzle to get all the volunteers together and discuss the
procedures and record keeping requirements for the day. You want to discuss the following
Running sheets (ie the timetable for the day, who is working at what time).
Responsibilities and duties (what each person has to do).
Handling of cash and balancing the till at the end of the day.
Reporting of outcomes to committee (to report on the community’s interest in the sausage sizzle, feedback,
how much money was made).

e) For each point above, provide a brief summary of the systems you would put into place. How will these
systems help your team manage performance?

Alison is one of the volunteers for the booth. Alison’s son is a new member of the Scouts and this is Alison’s
first activity with the group. She is very nervous about dealing with the public, as she has never volunteered
before. She is also concerned about how to handle money and what will happen if she makes mistakes.
Despite her concerns, Alison is enthusiastic and wants to help.

f) How could you provide support to Alison so she feels more confident in her dealings with people and
performing her tasks at the booth?

You are in charge of the finances for the project. A budget has been prepared which states the following:
 Total money to be raised: $10,000
 Sausage sizzle to be held on five Saturdays during January 2018.
 Bunnings have advised that sausage sizzles sell an average of 350 sausage sandwiches per day
 The cost of producing each sausage sandwich is $0.55c
 The cost of gas for each day is calculated at $10
 All other resources will be volunteered
 Sausage sandwiches will be sold at a price of $2.00

Having examined the budget you decide that it would be worth doing a sausage sizzle again later in the
year, but a review of the plan may be able to increase operational performance.

i) What would you do to solve the issues identified in your financial analysis and suggest options for
improvement for the next sausage sizzle initiative? You should explain the consultative process you will go
through and suggest at least five options to improve performance for next time.

As well as the budget there are some other issues that you have to focus on during the sausage sizzle
initiative:
Ray is one of your volunteers. He is rostered to work between 11am and 1pm on Saturday, of week two.
This time slot is probably the busiest time of the weekend. Ray is supposed to help Alison cook the
sausages. At 12.15 Alison comes to you in a panic. Ray has cooked himself a sausage and disappeared
into the store. He has been gone for over ten minutes and there is a big queue waiting for sausages. Alison
cannot keep up with the demand and everyone else in the booth is busy with their own duties.

j) How would you deal with Ray in this instance of unsatisfactory performance?

k) What plans could you put into place to ensure that, if Ray disappeared again, the booth would not be at a
disadvantage?

l) Taking into account everything that has happened, how would you vary your operational plan for the next
sausage sizzle initiative to ensure that areas of underperformance are covered? Make sure you cover
contingency plans for budgeting, volunteer underperformance, etc. You should include recommendations
for improvement, in addition to those you identified in (i).

It is now February and the event is complete. The Scouts committee would like a report that fully details the
outcomes of the sausage sizzle and recommendations for the next sausage sizzle initiative.

m) Prepare a report to the Scouts Committee. Your report should be written in a formal business report
format. Hand the report in to your assessor.

What do I need to hand in for this task? Have I completed this?
