Friedman’s Test for Three or More Dependent Samples

 Test if there is a significant difference between three or more dependent samples

 The equivalent test for this in parametric test is the One-way Analysis of Variance
for Repeated Samples.
 This test is limited only for determining significant differences between three or
more dependent samples and does not identify the number of significant
differences as well a which group is significally different.
 In this case, the POST HOC ANALYSIS is to be used to determine which group
is different from the other after knowing that there exists a significant difference
between three or more dependent samples.
 Assumptions include:
 a. there must be on independent variable and three or more dependent variables
 b. the selection of group must be randomized.
 C. data is in ordinal or continuous level

Example: Ms. Alagao wanted to determine whether her newly developed program in
teaching operations on radicals help improve the students’ performance. She conducted
a series of test on her 10 randomly selected grade 9 students. Their scores from the 50-
item tests are as follows:

Table 1

Jordan Male 15 25 28 40
Miguel Male 16 26 29 45
Carol Female 15 25 30 42
Fredily female 14 27 31 40
Kate Female 17 28 30 39
Myra female 15 29 31 38
Erica Female 16 29 31 47
Harnel Male 17 30 35 48
Dave Male 18 25 28 42

1. determine whether or not their performance in the three sets of posttests have
improve or not.
2. is there a significant difference between the performance of the 10 Grade 9 students
in their posttests scores after using the newly developed program in teaching operations
on radicals?

Solution: at .05 level of significance, the null hypothesis are as follows:

Ho: There is no significant difference between the performance in the pre-test and
posttest scores of the 10 grade 9 students.
Ha there is a significant difference between the performance in the pre-test and posttest
scores of the 10 grade 9 students.

Ho. there is no significant difference between the performance of the 10 Grade 9

students in their posttests scores after using the newly developed program in teaching
operations on radicals.

Ha. there is a significant difference between the performance of the 10 Grade 9 students
in their posttests scores after using the newly developed program in teaching operations
on radicals.
