Test for Comparing Two Related Samples

Parametric Test: T-Test for Paired Samples

Noon- parametric test equivalent to t-test for paired samples is Wilcoxon Signed Rank test`(T)
(related samples, matched samples or paired samples)
 Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for small samples
 Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for large samples

WSRT is applicable for ordinal level of measurement such as Likert scale. (10-point Likert scale)

Example:

Ms. Balaba conducted a study about the effectiveness of musically integrated

instructional materials in teaching operations on integers to her students at risks. She randomly
selected 10 from her grade 7-Maupay class. Before she started the intervention program, she
administered a pre-test to the students and obtained scores as follows: 2.30, 2.40, 2.10, 2.30,
2.20, 1.70, 1.80 2.60, 2.00, and 2.30. after successfully finishing the intervention program for 10
days. Ms. Balaba administered the post-test to her students which were as follows: 8.30, 10.00,
7.30, 8.30, 8.80, 7.60, 7.60, 7.70, 8.00 and 8.30. use the Wilcoxon signed rank test to determine
whether there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the
students.

SOLUTION: At .05 level of significance:

HO: There is no significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the 10
students.
H1: There is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the 10 students.

Based on the result from table 1, there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test
scores of the 10 students using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. Since the computed p-value is
less than .05 significance level, there is sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis. This
means that the use of musically integrated instructional materials in teaching operations of
integers helped improved the performance of the 10 students in their post-test.
