What quality activities are now being carried out and by whom?
 Central laboratories working under the management of Shapiro are taking care of all the quality

control activities.

 Quality planning and quality checking in new product development are the main focus of the

central laboratories.

 responsible for preparing the inspection and test plans weather for material control or process

control or finished goods control.

 Manuals and forms drafting, issuing the official plans and securing the agreement with the

departments are the main responsibilities

 They plan the quality in form of specifying the material, process and grading.

 responsible for investigating and reporting the percent of lots held due to the quality issue.

 In new product development first technical step is carried out in this department. Competing

products are studied and provisional formula is carried out.

 stimulates the products in different possible condition and checks the product results.

 Unofficial taste testing by the laboratory is also done by the person working in department.

b. What are the ways now used to coordinate the quality function?
 Primary coordination for the quality function is based on day-to-day control.

 Supervisors are getting the quick feedback from the process control.

 Production superintendents and plant managers are getting the reports from the quality

supervisor.
 Central quality authority is getting the reports and the samples and the top management is

receiving the summarized information in the form of percentage of the products as “A” grade

and how much was the budgeted as “A” grade summary of quality complaints and annual

reports.

c. What proposals, if any, do you have for top management?


 Management not adhering to the Quality policy

 Research and marketing people like to build a company image as quality based

 production and purchase departments are not interested in quality related activities.

 Everyone’s Focus on quality should be the priority to the AZ Company.

Top management should invest in quality improvement, play quality as a competitive advantage on

other companies. Coordination amongst the departments should be channelized.

Problem-2
Responsibilities of a Quality Manager

 determine the quality of the product and then make it as quality checking standard and check if

the facilities and procedures are capable of meeting those standards.

 Quality manager should have the requirements from customers and ensure that those

requirements are fulfilled as there were different complaints from customers related to the

packing and labeling.

 As raw material is very important for quality so the quality manager needs to specify the

requirements of raw materials.


 Quality manager and quality control staff should work with operating staff in order to establish

the standard operating procedures so every time product is manufactured should have

standard quality.

Organization Structure:

 Quality manager should be responsible to report to the headquarter quality control

department.

 Quality mangers also need to report that if any kind of training is required for a staff to

maintain the standards or to improve the standards.

 Quality manager needs to have a relationship with all departments and his responsibilities are

to check if there is problem in a product what caused that problem and how to control that

problem? No matter the problem exists in any department quality manger needs to work on it

and come up with solution.

Summary of quality control


Currently quality control department is focusing on more day-to-day issues there were no long term

focus on quality in quality control department as well in other departments. Marketing and research

departments are interested to improve the quality for better market share but other departments are

neglecting the importance of quality. Quality planning and checking is the main agendas of the quality

control department in AZ Company working as central laboratories. Department is responsible for

preparing and inspecting for material control and finished goods control. Currently the quality control
department is drafting a manual and having the agreements with the departments that all the quality

related procedures are being followed. There is participation from quality control department is

related to new product development. There is no proper coordination between the quality and other

departments and there is no proper structure for reporting related to the quality.

Top managements needs to concentrate more on quality as company needs to sale their items in less

cost because of many famous brands are working in industry. So the company needs to focus more on

quality improvement and where everyone is thinking that somewhat quality is same AZ needs to have

a quality as a competitive advantage. Coordination between the departments related to quality is not

managed and even with the department coordination is not up to the mark there should be the proper

coordination between the departments and within the quality control departments in order to improve

the quality of the products. Activities of quality control are limited. Quality control departments need

to set the standards for quality and responsibly needs to taken for meeting the quality standards.

Quality control departments need to interact with customers also in order to check the requirements

and satisfaction level of the customers.

Problem-4

Problem: Prepare the proposal for the vice president.


Important goal of the quality managers is to improve the quality of products. There are three

important components of quality management and they worked together.

 High quality means more accuracy is required and compliance with the standards as difference

can be calculated between the standard and actual product quality and real actions can be

taken on the bases of variance.


 Quality system is responsible to measure each component and ultimately the improved quality.

 Testing of the product is also important as helps to calculate the difference from standards. In

AZ Company only few quality control activities are going through and standard of those

activities are not up to the mark.

On the bases of complaints the company is receiving and further research on customer requirements

and industry standards are required to set the standards for the company. Objectives of the quality

control are making the finished products that satisfy the customer. Three step policies for quality

control should implement in operation of the company.

 first step the standards of quality needs to be set and needs to be based on the requirements of

customers

 second step the procedures of production needs to be made to achieve those quality standards

 third step coordination and cooperation between the departments and reporting needs to be

improved so actions can be taken if there is any difference between standard and actual

product.

Problem-5

Customer feedback
For the purpose of quality control and quality improvement the feedback of the customer is very

important. AZ Company needs to approach to the end user and get the feedback from them in order to

improve the quality and to set the standards and to check the satisfaction level of the customer.
Customer feedback will help the company to understand where the improvements are required and

how to set the standards and how to make standard operating procedure to satisfy the customers and

ultimately to increase the market share for the company.

Unit of Measure Quality measuring unit is based on the variance between actual and

standards

Standards of Standard of comparison is based on the market standards and on

comparison customers’ requirements

Categories of Quality Cost

 As in company if improvement in quality is required at the same time low cost production is

required two and then it become difficult to choose what is more important,

 In that case ultimate choice will be the combination of both production on low cost but with

good quality standards.


 In AZ Company same problems exists so its important to check the different costing. How much

cost is required to train the employees so they can produce good quality items? Cost of

purchasing raw materials is also important in this regards. How much the finished product

quality check is costing and what steps can be taken to improve the quality checking and

planning and coordination between the departments.

Problem-8
Plan of action

Overfill prevention is very important for the company as the company is losing so much in this

regarded. There are several steps that can be taken to control the maximum loss from overfilling and

on the other side it also cause the negative impact on the customer that every time they bought the

same product but weight is different.

 First of all employee training to operate the machine is very important. As if the employee is

not trained enough to fill the ten then this will become obvious that problem will arise. So the

employees need to have enough training to operate the machine efficiently and effectively.

 There are multiple products are available to control the overfill prevention so the company

consider them to purchase if the cost of the equipments are not that much high.
