I’m looking for a car – a sales conversation at the car dealer M8

A customer wants to buy a car at a car dealer. She is talking to a friendly sales assistant.
Sales assistant: Good morning.
Customer: Good morning.
Sales assistant: May I help you?
Customer: Yes, I‘m looking for a used car.
Sales assistant: What kind of car are you looking

for?
Customer: I’d like one with five doors, a
large boot and lots of ground
clearance.
10 Sales assistant: I see. Have you considered a station wagon? That might be a good option for
you.
Customer: Yes, I was actually thinking of that myself.
Sales assistant: What other features should your car have?
Customer: Well, I find that the side windows and the rear window of most modern cars don’t
15 offer enough visibility. So I need a park distance control or a camera. And I’d also
like Xenon headlights and a sunroof.
Sales assistant: Sounds good. Then I would suggest a complete package. It includes all the
extras.
Customer: Are the side mirrors and the door handles always in the same colour as the car?
20 Sales assistant: Yes, that’s standard for all models of this brand.
Customer: Ah, OK. Good to know.
Sales assistant: Do you have any colour preferences?
Customer: I don’t like dark colours. Silver, white or other light colours would be fine.
Sales assistant: Alright, and how about the mileage?
25 Customer: It shouldn’t have more than 50,000 miles.
Sales assistant: OK, I see. Come take a look at this silver car over here. It has low mileage, all
the extras available and a hybrid engine, so the fuel consumption is very low.
Customer: That sounds great! I could save a lot of money in the long term.
Sales assistant: Yes indeed. That’s a real advantage.
30 Customer: What’s this black cover on the bonnet?
Sales assistant: It protects the bonnet from scratches and dents. It’s included in the price.
Customer: Interesting. Would it be possible to take the car for a test drive?
Sales assistant: Certainly! Here are the keys.
Customer: Thanks. I’ll be back in around half an hour.
35 Sales assistant: OK. Enjoy your ride.
40 minutes later
Sales assistant: So, how was the test drive?
Customer: I enjoyed it. The car handles quite well! It has got all the extras I need. I also like
the silver colour.
40 Sales assistant: How did you like the engine?
Customer: I really liked it. It’s very quiet when you accelerate but it still has a lot of power.
The price label says it costs £20,000, which is a little out of my budget. Could
you offer me a discount?
Sales assistant: Actually, the price is already quite low. What I can do is offer some additional
45 services, for example an extended warranty. The factory warranty is two years,
but I could extend it to four years at no extra cost. Additionally, you can have a
set of new winter tyres.
Customer: I’ve seen that one bumper has some scratches. Would you repair it?
Sales assistant: Let me see. Oh yes, you’re right. We can replace it with a new bumper. How
50 does that sound?
Customer: Yes, that sounds like a good offer.
Sales assistant: Shall we set up the contract?
Customer: Alright.
Sales assistant: Would you come to my office? This way please.
55 Customer: Thank you.
