Objective: The objective of the course is to provide fundamental knowledge of sensors and its
applications. It covers basic principle of operations and usefulness of different types of sensors
for a particular application. It is also helpful to design electronic circuits using sensors and
transducers.

Unit 1: PROTOCOLS: Protocol Standardization for IoT;EffortsofM2M and WSN Protocols;


SCADA and RFID Protocols; Unified Data Standards; Protocols –IEEE 802.15.4;Network
layer;6LowPAN;MQTT;COAP
Unit 2: Edge: IoT Edge basic introduction; What and where is the “edge”;Edge /Fog
computingValue of keeping data local;An edge-first approach; The power of edge to cloud; IoT
Edge cloud interface; Communication protocols and protocol stacks for the edge devices
Unit 3: Gateway: Overview of Edge Networks in IoT; Implementation of IoT Edge Gateway;
Edge Architecture: Cloud Path; A Multi-Tier Cloud Computing Framework Femto Clouds;
Leveraging Mobile Devices to Provide Cloud Service at the Edge Fast; Scalable and Secure On
loading of Edge Functions Using AirBox

Unit 5: Developing IoT Solutions: Introduction to IoT tools; Developing applications through
IoT tools; Developing sensor based application through embedded system platform; Edge
Analytics, Edge Security and Artificial Intelligence(AI).
Unit 6: Domain specific applications of IoT: Home automation; Industry applications;
Surveillance applications;Other IoT applications.
