1 General Notes
Opcenter Execution Discrete functionalities - Scope
Siemens AG supports solely Opcenter Execution Discrete (Opcenter EX DS) features that are officially documented.
Any improper use of Opcenter EX DS not expressly described in official documentation will not be supported.
As a result, users must not manually launch any executables installed by Opcenter EX DS unless explicitly instructed
to do so by the DI SW Support Services or official Opcenter EX DS documentation. Likewise, users must not use any
APIs exposed by DLLs installed by Opcenter EX DS within custom applications, unless explicitly instructed to do so
by DI SW Support Services or official Opcenter EX DS documentation.
Moreover, the use of any feature not expressly authorized may compromise the proper functioning of Opcenter EX
DS: in extreme cases, such behavior may cause the relative software and/or data to become corrupted, with no
possibility of recovery.
If you need to customize the functionalities provided by default by Opcenter Execution Discrete, refer to the
indications regarding customization illustrated in the Opcenter Execution Foundation Development and
Configuration Guide.
Integration of Third-Party software

Integration of Third-Party software with Opcenter Execution Discrete does not imply that the product supports all
the functionalities provided by the former. Likewise, it does not imply that those Third-Party software
functionalities that are supported are feasible in all possible configurations. Only those Third-Party
software functionalities and configurations presented and described in Opcenter Execution
Discrete documentation are officially supported in conjunction with Opcenter Execution Discrete.
Customizations
The possibility of customizing the product’s code is offered to System Integrators: however, keep in mind that a
clear distinction must be made between the product native code and the customization. Likewise, it is necessary
that any custom code undergo auditing prior to its execution and deployment: in alternative, the System Integrator
must provide coding guidelines, making the Customer responsible for the execution of code compliance and/or
tracking.
Minification of the Deployed Application

You can increase performance of the deployed AppU4DM App by minifying the UI Application resources as
explained in section How to Configure Solution Studio Settings in the Opcenter Execution Foundation Development
and Configuration Guide. This functionality was previously provided by the Opcenter Execution Discrete Post-Setup
Configuration tool.

What is Opcenter Execution Discrete?
Opcenter Execution Discrete is designed to satisfy the most common needs of industries with a hierarchical
structure in which specific macro-areas are dedicated to executing discrete manufacturing functionalities in various
stages in order to produce the desired product. The industries targeted operate in the following categories:

What technology does Opcenter Execution Discrete adopt?

Opcenter Execution Discrete is a product based on the innovative technology of Opcenter Execution Foundation.
The advantage is that your solution is a mix between proven out-of-the-box MES functionalities and brand new
functional and architectural capabilities delivered by the Opcenter Execution Foundation platform.
Which external software can be integrated with Opcenter Execution Discrete?

Opcenter Execution Discrete can be integrated with the following external systems:
• Teamcenter Manufacturing, in the context of the Closed Loop Manufacturing solution, principally to
automatically download and release Teamcenter Manufacturing production processes;
• SAP, primarily to automatically download production requests and upload production performance.
• Opcenter APS, to permit advanced planning and scheduling of production.
• Generic Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) Systems, to retrieve the most appropriate Computer Numerical
Control (CNC) programs for the machines present in your system and associate them accordingly;
• Opcenter Connect MOM, to employ the exchange of structured messages to automate certain activities
during production execution.

 The integration of external software does not imply that the product supports all the functionalities
provided by the former and that the supported functionalities are feasible in all possible configurations.

What's New
3 What's New
The sections listed below provide a brief description of the features and functionalities introduced as of Opcenter
Execution Discrete 4.0.
App Modularization - BoP App

To facilitate system extensibility, Opcenter Execution Discrete has undertaken a process of App Modularization.
To this end, functionalities related to Bills of Processes, Master Plans and Catalogs have been moved to a separate
App known as the BoP App.
The BoP App is automatically installed by the Post-Setup in the Opcenter Execution Discrete solution.
For custom solutions, System Integrators can nonetheless decide to exclude the BoP App, if its related
functionalities are not required. System Integrators can also decide to use only the BoP App, since it is completely
independent.
Native Management of Master Plans

As of this version, Master Plans, which were previously only downloadable from Teamcenter Manufacturing can
now be created from Opcenter Execution Discrete. Moreover, it is now possible to create Work Orders from Master
Plans similarly to what happens with Bill Of Processes.
Extended Use of Indicators for Result Management and Result Strategy

Management
The use of dedicated indicators for Result management (and Result Strategy management) is no longer limited to
certain contexts.
As of this version, in a variety of situations involving the selection of an MTU (or a Serial Number), it is now possible
to comprehend whether a positive or negative Result has been declared on the selected element. Likewise, it is now
possible to determine whether a Repeat strategy has been adopted in relation to a previously-declared Result.
The situations in which these dedicated indicators are used now include:
• working with Non-Conformances;
• starting a Step;
• loading and unloading a Container;
• performing a Skip;
• performing a Split on a Work Order;
• creating a Work Order Pre-Kit;
• completing Work Order configuration.
In any case, when Result Management is enabled, the tiles representing Material Tracking Units will adopt the
NOK indicator to represent a negative Result.
Association of Work Instructions to Execution Group Phases

Work Instructions can now be linked to (and, when required, unlinked from) Execution Group Phases. Operators can
receive detailed instructions for Execution Group Phases at runtime, about performing specific tasks on the
product. Execution Group Phases in the Open status can be linked to one or more Work Instructions and the one
Work Instruction can be linked to multiple Execution Group Phases.
Batch Consumption Management

What's New
The user can choose how to manage batch consumption at runtime: either as in previous versions, creating new
batches on the fly, or recreating the same Batch Id more than once until a predefined maximum quantity is
consumed.
Enhancement on High Automation Landing Page

System Configurators can now change the default layout of the High Automation Landing page, thus enabling the
display of runtime tasks, similarly to what is done in the standard Operator Landing page.
Material Consumption through Barcode Scanning

Material Tracking Units can also be identified by Barcodes and consumed at runtime by scanning the Barcode
received as input. Barcodes are validated against the Barcode Rules that can be configured and associated to either
the Material or the Functional Code of the Material. Material consumption through Barcode scanning depends on
successful validation of the Barcode.

documentation (in English and Simplified Chinese) and the localized UI resources from the Support Center website
as follows:
1. Logon to https://support.sw.siemens.com/en-US/.
2. Click the Opcenter Execution Discrete home card and navigate to the following sections:

Local Access to Opcenter EX DS Documentation

To access Opcenter EX DS documentation locally following product installation:
1. Click the Start button, scroll down to the Opcenter Execution Foundation folder.
2. In the Opcenter Execution Foundation folder, either:
• click the Documentation link to view a list of the installed documents.
• click the Documentation Center link to view documentation in the Documentation Center in
Solution Studio. This Documentation Center also provides search and filter capabilities.

Functional Limitations

Non-Conformance Customization
Customization is feasible solely for Quality Non-Conformances.
Special characters in User IDs

Special characters (that is, non-alphanumeric characters) in User IDs are not allowed.
Screen Resolution
Due to scaling limitations in the Opcenter EX DS UI component, Operator Landing and Operator Details custom
pages created with the Opcenter Execution Foundation Mashup Editor may experience resizing issues below certain
screen resolutions.
Interlocking Checks on Work Order Operations with Auto-Start and Auto-Complete

Behavior
Interlocking Checks associated to Work Order Operations configured with Auto-Start and Auto-Complete behavior
will not be executed.
Language Used for Error Messages

In some cases, error messages are displayed solely in English.
Contextual Help not available for some pages

Some Opcenter Execution Discrete pages do not provide contextual help.
Parameter UoMNId for Material Tracking Units

Although editable, the value of UoMNId for Material Tracking Units created by commands
CreateDM_MaterialTrackingUnitandMaterialtrackingUnit and
CreateDM_MaterialTrackingUnitandMaterialtrackingUnitList is necessarily inherited from the parent entity from
which they are generated.
Migration of Custom Non-Conformance Lifecycles

Due to a bug, if you were migrating from a version prior to Opcenter EX DS 3.2, status properties of Non-
Conformance Lifecycles in previous versions could have been duplicated. As of Opcenter EX DS 3.2, duplicated
status properties are deleted: therefore, prior to migrating, if you have customized the status flags, it is
recommended to take note of the existing flags and apply them manually after the migration itself. Before the
migration, you must enable the "data loss" functionality as described in section Enabling Potentially Destructive
Operations of the Opcenter Execution Foundation Development and Configuration Guide.
Teredo Tunneling must be enabled when using Ipv6

If IPv6 is enabled in your system, make sure that Teredo Tunneling is enabled as well. Conversely, if IPv6 is disabled,
make sure that Teredo Tunneling is disabled running the following command in an elevated command prompt:
netsh interface teredo set state disabled.
Data Export-Import

Functional Limitations
For what concerns the export/import of data inherited from Opcenter EX FN, most of the master data can be
exported: however, the data related to the Process Catalog can be exported and imported, but this is not possible
for the 100% structure.
It is possible to export:
• As Planned BOPs
• Process Catalog
• Operation Catalog
• Step Catalog
provided that the Descendants checkbox is not selected at the time of export.
Therefore, it is necessary that you first perform an Export of the following (all without Descendants) in the given
order:
• AsPlanned BOPs
• Process Catalog
• Step Catalog
and then import in the given order:
• AsPlanned BOPs
• Process Catalog
• Step Catalog.
Semi-Automatic Data Acquisition and Containers

Semi-automatic data acquisition is currently not available on Containers.
Result Functionality Not Fully Available

The Result functionality is currently not available for Execution Groups. Likewise, it cannot be used in contexts in
which Skip and Split actions are performed.
Exception when duplicate Equipment is added

When operating in systems using Oracle databases, if you attempt to create a duplicate Equipment Configuration
(that is, belonging to the same level and type as those of an Equipment Configuration already present in the
database), but the name of which differs in case (for example, with name "Area", as opposed to name "area" of the
existing Equipment Configuration), an error is raised: this behavior is by design.
Standard UI Modules cannot be associated to your solution

If you already have a configured solution, you cannot link additional Standard UI modules to it, if the Name of the
Module matches with the name of the first Screen in the UI module manifest. The same is true if you have removed
the Standard UI modules and attempt to reassociate them again.
Due to this limitation, if you also attempt to reset the Navigation and Home Page Navigation configuration using the
Reset All button, an error is raised. The solution must be deleted and recreated from scratch using the Post-Setup
Configuration tool.

Tree UI Widget Compatibility
As of Opcenter Execution Discrete 3.2, the convention of using prefix opxexds for any new customized UI widgets
has been adopted.
In particular, to permit compatibility, for customizations prior to this release and containing tree widget sitTree, it
is necessary that this widget be manually renamed to opxexdsTree.

portion of the baseline name following the underscore.
For example, if the original baseline name is "PBOP_Demo001", the system erroneously
creates the evolved baseline as "PBOP_2", instead of "PBOP_Demo0012".
