1. INTRODUCTION
This objetive of this projet is to study the data of Gage Station 55B in a segment of the Narew
River.

2. Information about the Narew River

The Narew flows through the geographical region of Europe known as the Wysoczyzny
Podlasko – Bialoruskie located within the Podlaskie Voivodeship and Masovian Voivodeship of
Poland and the Hrodna Voblast of Belarus

The Narew is a 499-kilometre (310 mi) river primarily in north-eastern Poland, which is also a
tributary of the river Vistula. The Narew is one of Europe's few braided rivers, the term relating
to the twisted channels resembling braided hair. Around 57 kilometres (35 mi) of the river
flows through western Belarus.

3.1 Daily Water Levels

3.2 Monthly, Half-Year and Year Water Levels

The lowest and highest of wáter levels, respectively NW and WW (abbreviation used in
Poland), were determined. It was also determined the average wáter levels (SW) for each
month, for the Winter half-year (November to April) for the s mmer half-year (May to October)
and for the whole year.

3.3 Stream Stage Hydrograph

The stream stage hydrograph was drawn using in the data from Table 1.

4. Discharge

4.1 Quadratic Equation

The values for the discharge (Q [m3/s]) presented in the table below are the values
correspondent to the Gage Station 10B. The values for the wáter levels are the values for that
same day of the year.

Because we only have 10 days of discharge values in one year, using a quadratic regression line
graphic we were able to determine an equation that would allow us to determine discharge
values for all days of the year.

4.3. Monthly, Half-Year and Yearly Discharge Values

The lowest and highest values for the discharge, respectively NQ and WQ
( abbreviation used in Poland), were determined. It was also determined the average discharge
values (SQ) for each month, for the Winter half-year (November to April), for the summer half-
year (May to October) adn for the whole year.

5 . Discharge of the river

When we have no observation data, we can estimate the discharge of the river too. Then, we
use empirical formulas for such calculations. For example, the average anual discharge can be
calculated as show below. So obtained are, however, much less accurate.

- The catchment area = 2207 km2

- Precipitation for all ``B’’ students = 605,5 mm

5.1 Mean anual discharge (Qm)

- Cs = 0,3
- H = 0,60555
- F = 2207

Qm = 0,03171 x 0,60555 x 2207 x 0,3 = (m 3/s)

The data, of course, we have taken from the following tables:

Hydrology 2020/2021

5.2 Comparation
Comparation Qm with previusly obtained result (SQ) from recived data. The results shpuld be
similar to each other. Of course, the SQ is more accurate tan Qm.

- SQ = 9,8
- Qm = 12,71

Qm is bigger than SQ

5.3 Catastrophic discharge (Q4)

- Cw = 0,055
- m = 3,7
- H = 0,60555
- F = 2207

Q4 = 0,055 x 3,7 x 0,60555 x 2207 = 271,96 m 3/s

6 . Comparison Between Discharge Hydrographs (Narew River and

Santa Fe River)

To compare both hydrographs we have to take into account that the units of both hydrographs
are not the same (cubic feet and cubic meters). However, only the scale of the results changes,
so it is not necessary to make changes to compare the differences that these graphs present.

Discharge hydrograph of Santa Fe River

Hydrology 2020/2021

Comparing, we can see both hydrographs, they are not similar because being in different
locations (Florida and Poland) they have a different climate. Florida is a subtropical climate, so
rainfall is very common throughout the year, especially in the summer semester. As we can see
in the hydrograph, it has rises and falls until summer (June 1 or so) where the discharge line
rises a lot, until approximately October 10.

However, Poland has a mix of oceanic and continental climate, this means that the winter
semester is very cold and there is a lot of precipitation in addition to snow (this is why in the
hydrograph, the discharge peaks start in November-December).

In addition, the discharge line drops in months like May-June and remains low for some
months (until November approx.). This happens because summer is very dry and hot.
