RECRUITMENT

In simple sense, human resources management means employing


people, developing their resources, utilizing, maintaining and
compensating their services in tune with the job and organizational
requirements with a view to contribute to the goals of the organization,
individual and the society.

Michale j. jucius defined personnel management as ―the field of


management which has to do with planning, organizing, directing and
controlling the function of procuring, developing maintaining and utilizing
a labor force.

The concept of HRM emerged in the mid 1980‘s against the background
of the works of famous writers on management, like pascal& Athos
(1981) & peters &networkman (1982), who produced lists of the attributes
that they claimed characterized successful companies.
T&D Focus – Identifying, assessing & through planned learning
helping develop the key competencies which enable individuals to
perform current (or) future job.
D Focus – Assuring healthy inters & intra – personnel relationships &
helping groups initiate & manage change.
Job design Focus – Defining how tasks, authority &
systems will be organized. HRP Focus – determining the
organizations major HR needs, Strategies &
Philosophies.
The Michigan school made one of the first overt statement of the
HRM
concept. They explained the human resource cycle that contains of four
generic processes (or) functions. These are
 Selection – matching available human resources to jobs.
 Appraisal – performance management
 Rewards – it must reward short as well as long – term
achievement.
 Development – developing high quality employees.
