Notes and Notions

♫ Each part should be stuffed firmly (if stuffing is indicated), but not so much as to cause the
stitches to gap and the stuffing to show.

♫ Gauge: While exact gauge is not essential, this project is meant to be made with closely
worked stitches and one should choose the appropriate hook size for the desired yarn weight.
This pattern was created using Worsted weight cotton yarn and a U.S. size E-4 (3.50 mm) hook.
Finished size: Approx 15” (38 cm) seated.

Notions:
U.S. Size E-4 (3.50 mm) hook
Large eyed blunt tipped yarn needle
Stitch marker
Fiberfill stuffing
Worsted Weight Yarn

This project uses the following


techniques: All terms are U.S.

Magic Ring
Chain stitch: (ch)
Single crochet: (sc)
Slip stitch: (sl st)
Bobble Stitch: (Bbl) *Yarn over
(yo), insert hook into st, yo and
pull up a loop, yo and pull through
2 loops. Rep from * two more
times into the same st (4 loops
remain on the hook) Yo and pull
through all loops – bobble made.
Pull yarn to tighten up the stitch.

Single crochet two together decrease: (sc2tog) - (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop)
twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 sc decreased
Half Double Crochet: (hdc)
Double Crochet: (dc)

Shaun the Sheep


Body
With white make magic ring
Rnd 1: Ch2 (does not count as st) work 14 DC into
ring. Join to 1st dc with a sl st. Pull ring tight.
Rnd 2: Ch 1. *Bbl in next st, work 2 sc into the
next st; Rep from *around . Join. – 21 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 1. *2sc into next, sc 2; Rep from *
around. Join. – 28 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1. *sc in next, Bbl, 2 sc in next, Bbl;
Rep from * around. Join. – 35 sts.
Rnd 5: Ch 1. *2sc in next, sc 4; Rep from *
around. Join. – 42 sts.
Rnd 6: Ch 1. (sc, Bbl, 2sc, Bbl, sc, Bbl) 6 times.
(sc, Bbl, sc, Bbl, sc, Bbl) in last 6 sts. Join – 48 sts.
Rnd 7: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.

Rnd 8: Ch 1. *Bbl, sc 2; Rep from * around. Join.


Rnd 9: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.
Rnd 10: Ch 1. *sc 2, Bbl; rep from * around. Join.
Rnd 11: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.

Rnds 12-31: Repeat rounds 8-11 5 times.


Begin stuffing the body as the piece progresses.

Rnd 32: Ch 1. (Bbl, sc, Bbl, sc2tog, Bbl, Sc) 6 times (Bbl, sc, Bbl, Sc, Bbl, sc) to end. Join. – 42
sts.
Rnd 33: Ch 1 *sc 4, sc2tog around. Join. – 35 sts
Rnd 34: Ch 1 (Bbl, sc2tog, Bbl, sc) around. Join. – 28 sts
Rnd 35: Ch 1 (sc 2, sc2tog) around. Join. – 21 sts.
Rnds 36 & 37: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.
Rnds 38 & 39: Ch 1. HDC 3, sc 14, HDC 4. Join. – 21 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Firmly stuff the entire body, including the neck.

Head
The head is worked starting at the nose up and in continuous rnds. Do not join or turn your
work.
With Black make magic ring
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in magic ring. Pull ring tight. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up
every rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – 18 sts.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around – 24 sts.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from * around – 30 sts.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * around – 36 sts.
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 5 sc; repeat from * around – 42 sts.
Rnd 8: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc; repeat from * around – 48 sts.
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 7 sc; repeat from * around – 54 sts.
Rnds 10-15: Sc around.
Rnd 16: *sc2tog, sc in next 16; repeat from *around – 51 sts
Rnds 17-20: Sc around.
Rnd 21: *sc2tog, sc in next 15; repeat from * around – 48 sts.
Rnds 22-25: Sc around.
Rnd 26: *sc2tog, sc in next 14; repeat from * around – 45 sts.
Rnds 27-38: Sc around.
Rnd 39: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from * around – 36 sts.
Rnd 40:*Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * around – 30 sts.
Rnd 41:*Sc2tog, sc in each of
next 3 sc; repeat from * around
– 24 sts
Rnd 42:*Sc2tog, sc in each of
next 2 sc; repeat from * around
– 18 sts.

Stuff head.

Rnd 44: Sc2tog around.


Fasten off, weave in yarn ends.

Wool Cap
Rnds 1-13: Work 1st 13 rnds of body.
Rnd 14: Sl st around.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ears make 2
The ears are worked in continuous rnds
With Black make magic ring
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into ring. Pull ring tight.
Rnd 2: (2sc into next st, sc 2) twice – 8 sts.
Rnd 3: (2sc into next st, sc 3) twice – 10 sts.
Rnd 4: (2sc into next st, sc 4) twice – 12sts.
Rnd 5: (2sc into next st, sc 5) twice – 14 sts.
Rnd 6: sc around
Rnd 7: (2sc into next st, sc 6) twice – 16 sts.
Rnds 8-10: Sc around
Rnd 11: (sc2tog, sc in next 6) twice – 14 sts.
Rnds 12-21: sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Eyes make 2
With white make magic ring
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into ring. Join.
Rnd 2: Work 2sc into each st around. Join – 12 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pupils Make 2
With black make magic ring
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into ring. Join. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Legs Make 4
Legs are worked in continuous rnds.

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – 18 sts.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around – 24 sts.
Rnds 5-8: Sc around.
Rnd 9: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around – 18 sts.
Rnd 10: *Sc2tog, sc in next sc; repeat from * around – 12 sts. Begin stuffing lightly
Rnds 11-41: Sc around. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Tail
With white make magic ring
Rnd 1: Ch 2 (does NOT count as st) work 12 DC into ring. Join. Pull ring tight – 12 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 1. *Bbl, 2sc in next; repeat from * around. Join – 18 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 1. *2sc in next, sc 2; repeat from * around. Join – 24 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1. *sc, Bbl, 2sc in next, Bbl; repeat from * around. Join– 30 sts
Rnd 5: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.

Rnd 6: Ch 1. *Bbl, sc 2; repeat from *


around. Join
Rnd 7: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.
Rnd 8: Ch 1. *Sc 2, Bbl; repeat from *
around. Join.
Rnd 9: Ch 1. Sc around. Join.

Rnds 10-13: Repeat rnds 6-9


Rnd 14: Ch 1. *Bbl, sc2tog, Bbl, sc; repeat
from * around. Join – 24 sts
Rnd 15: Ch 1.*Sc 2, sc2tog; repeat from 8
around. Join – 18 sts. Begin stuffing.
Rnd 16: Ch 1. *sc, sc2tog; repeat from *
around. Join – 12 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finish stuffing tail.

Finishing: Sew wool cap to smaller end of head. Attach head to neck, the neck is slightly
tilted to allow for a good angle on the head. Make sure the neck is firmly stuffed so the head
doesn’t flop around.

Sew pupils to the middle of the eye whites, sew onto head right by the hair line (since Shaun has
sort of buggy eyes you can add a small amount of stuffing behind the whites as you sew them to
the head).

Fold the small end of the ears in half and run a few sts through to secure the fold. Sew to the
sides of the head.
Sew the arms/legs to the sides and bottom of the body.
Attach the tail in the back centered between the legs.
