"TANKART 4 German Armor is latest title from Rinaldi Studio Press and includes a brand new Technique Proficiency chapter, a large 4-model Winter Whitewash chapter
featuring the three main scales of 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35 armor, 4 unique model chapters from the main author, and 1 guest author chapter from Belgium Master Mario Eens -- 9
models in total are presented, including Mario's amazing captured Char B1 bis in German service.
The various paint schemes cover all periods of the war and specifically tackle new camo schemes to go along with the paint jobs presented inside TANKART 1, including
masking and painting hard-edge 3-tone and the dramatic Disc Camo scheme. Plus, two of the new models are open top SPG's and cover a lot of specialized interior painting &
weathering techniques and processes. And for the the first time the main author, Michael Rinaldi illustrates the full potential of his unique Oil Paint Rendering technique
concept with its incredible ability to handle all the weathering elements and painting effects using only oil paints on his striking Grille Ausf. M chapter.
All of this expansive new material is covered in RSP's comprehensive dual-text format explaining both the how and the why of each step of every model, and the book is
printed on the same high-quality paper stock and heavy duty matt laminated cover with RSP's exclusive LayFlat Binding that is far more durable than regular perfect binding,
which allows for the book to lay open and stay flat, making it an effective tool for the workbench."

I wanted a somewhat lighter shade of green to
avoid too sharp a contrast between the white and
green surfaces, so I lightened up some Tamiya RAF

was dry, I applied a layer of lacquer clear gloss to
act as a barrier for hairspray weathering. I find that
without the barrier, it’s too easy to rub past the top

Overall, the Hobby Boss kit is a major

as well as vehicles from the modern British Army
and a few private owners. Coupled with this the
re-enactors put on some excellent Living History
displays and then joined in for the set piece battle
in the arena at the end of each day. On the Saturday
when I was there, all the enthusiasm and hard work
was rewarded with some super weather.
Entry to the show is at each end of the site, and
I went in via the gates from some car parking at
the opposite end to the actual museum buildings.
This brings you in amidst the living history displays
which are on the right as you walk in, and several
rows of trade stands and bouncy castles to the
left. Looking ahead and to the right is the new
Vehicle Conservation Centre, and opposite this on
the left is the main display arena. Beyond both of
these, you find a section of assorted food stands
and then the museum buildings themselves. One
of the benefits you get from buying a ticket for
Tankfest is that this also gives you free access
to the museum for the rest of the year. This is
handy as the interior of the buildings was packed
with visitors and additional trade and exhibition
stands so a good look at some of the exhibits
may have proved a bit tricky. The separate Vehicle
Conservation Hall holds a host of vehicles held in
reserve and left for restoration, and this was open

was seen in the film and, in company with a couple
of additional Sherman film stars, provided another
exhibit that many were keen to see. Perhaps the
only inconvenience on this for the arena display
was that a camera and tripod had been fitted to
the top of the turret for one of the show sponsors
which rather spoilt the overall impression (magically
removed on our front cover image thanks to
Photoshop! Ed). Nothing major of course, but
something I felt was rather unfortunate.
The British Army gave some great support to the
event, largely from the ATDU (Armour Trials and
Development Unit) that is based as Bovington, as
they brought along Megatron, their uparmoured
Challenger 2, along with an uparmoured Warrior 2,

many kits these days, it sometimes seems as though
the moulds are cut by two different people. For
example, the wheel hubs are very well detailed and
fit the flattened effect tyres very well. But the one-

the access steps to the side doors in the body are

are horribly thick and are best used as patterns to cut
new window material out of thin clear plastic. You
also get a very complete decal sheet.
