Project Human Resources Management

Instructor: Worku Mekonnen (PHD)

Course Description:
In broad terms, this course is designed to deal with the acquisition, development and utilization
of human resources within project based organizations. Detailed coverage includes: human
resource acquisitions, managing project teams, labor relations, health and safety regulations
performance appraisals, Leadership, Power, Influence and Politics in a Project Environment ,
coaching, mentoring, and other skills related to working with individuals.

Objectives of the course:


After completing the course, the students will be able to:
 explain the role of human resource management in an project based organizations.
 discuss the various team building elements in project based organizations.
 explain the process and use of performance evaluation in managing project human
resources
 discuss the process of leading and motivating project team members.
 analyze the labor relation and employment related legal practices in Ethiopia

Mode of Delivery:
We will be taking an active learning approach in this course. The course instructor’s
primary role is to facilitate the learning process. In each session, the instructor will
devote some time in lecturing, but we will also spend a great deal of time in classroom
discussions. You are, therefore, expected to contribute to class discussion on a regular
basis

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
The course grade will be assessed by a weighted average computation of scores on
article review report, case study ,group assignment and final examination.
Weights for these items are as follows:

Case Study 20%


Take home mid exam 30 %
Final Examination 50 %
Total: 100%

7.3 Final Examination

The final examination is primarily given to test your academic progress and evaluate over all
understanding of the course. The examination will contain case studies, Multiple-Choice as

well as long essay questions.

VIII. CLASS ATTENDANCE

Regular on line class attendance is expected from the teacher and the students alike.
Whenever possible, any student should get permission from the instructor before being
absent. If the instructor misses a class, he is required to arrange make-up classes. A
student is not allowed to take the final examination if he/she doesn’t attend 75% of the
classes during the semester.

IX. COURSE GRADING

After overall academic performance assessment, a letter grade will be granted to you
based on the University College academic achievement grading policy.
