Even as the Kaleshwaram lift
irrigation project (KLIP) has
rekindled  hopes  among  the
distressed farming commun­
ity with the availability of wa­
ter throughout the year, the
same has become a bane for
the farmers of two villages in
Manthani mandal.
Farmers  of  Arenda  and
Mallaram villages in the man­
dal  have  not  been  able  to
designed  to  store  11.9  tmcft
of water and constructed to a
height of 120 metres at pond
level  and  107  metres  at  bed
level.  It  has  66  crest  gates.
The  authorities  have  ac­
quired  about  1,200  acres  of
land for the project in Jayash­
ankar­Bhupalapally,  Pedda­
palli  and  Mancherial
districts.

Two employees of the Trea­
sury Department landed in
the dragnet of the Anti­Cor­
ruption Bureau (ACB) while
receiving  a  huge  bribe  of

partment  in  Bhadrachalam
town on Thursday.
According  to  sources,  a
team  of  ACB  sleuths  laid  a
trap and caught Shaik Saidu­
a retired official of the Agri­
culture Department, to pro­
cess  the  commutation  and
final  pension  payment  of
bills following which the lat­
ter approached the ACB.

lected  the  bribe  from  the
complainant on the bank of
the Godavari in the temple
town  on  Thursday  after­
noon. 
When he returned to the
office,  the  ACB  officials

take  up  cultivation  for  the
past two years owing to sub­
mergence of their fields un­
der the backwaters of the An­
naram  barrage.  Annaram
barrage was taken up as one
of  the  three  KLIP  barrages
between Medigadda and Yel­
lampalli, the other two being
Medigadda  and  Sundilla.
From  Medigadda  barrage,
the  water  is  lifted  through
the Kannepalli pump house,
making way for the water to
flow through gravity into the
Annaram  barrage  in  Maha­
devpur mandal.
The Annaram barrage was
project  is  proving  dear  for
farmers of Arenda and Malla­
ram  villages  with  the  sub­
mergence  of  their  fields  by
backwaters.  Instead  of  ac­
quiring the land for the pro­
ject  on  the  pretext  of  huge
wall to avoid submergence of
fields  at  Annaram  barrage,
but in vain. Sunkari Mahesh,
a farmer from Mallaram vil­
lage,  said  that  for  last  two
years he had been unable to
take up cultivation due to its
around  500  acres  of  fields
had been submerged, deny­
ing livelihood to farmers, he
said and demanded that the
government  include  their
land in submerged areas and
give them compensation.
